  • The effect of Yellow river estuarine evolution on its immediate upstream channel
    Wang, Wan Zhan
Shortening of estuarine course from an old one to a new one maybe causes its immediate upstream channel either to be retrogresively eroded or not depending on incoming flow and sediment, channel ... slopes, forms and capacity of anti-erosion of a new estuarine course, etc. Extension of estuarine course reduces channel slopes, however, incoming flow and sediment, channel boundary conditions etc. play an important rule in the general tendency of slope reduction by the extension. Field data collected since 1855 have shown that the effect of the extension exists near the course change site. The reason why the effect of extension covers so short distance is that an esturiane terrace is gradually formed along the estuarine channel under the influence of interaction among incoming flow and sediment and tides. Topset of the terrace becomes flat with the estuarine course extending, and in the end becomes liable to be flooded or branch, which restricts the extension and its effect on immediate upstream channel within a very short distance
