    The Master%s thesis identifies the characteristics of colloquial language in the contemporary Italian novel Come dio comanda, written by Niccoló Ammaniti, and provides an analysis of its Slovene ... version, Kakor bog ukazuje, translated by Maja Žorga. On a morphosyntactic level, Ammaniti%s language is characterised by deviations from the Italian linguistic norm, while the lexical level is marked by a pronounced expressivity and a high degree of idiomaticity. The thesis's primary purposes are two: to determine to what extent the SL morphosyntactic colloquial elements were preserved in the Slovene translation, and to identify strategies of translating expressively marked linguistic units. In terms of the latter, the analysis is limited to the contrastive comparison of idioms. In the identification of the characteristics of colloquial Italian, the theoretical concepts are illustrated with 77 examples within respective linguistic levels (from the morphological to the textual). Idioms are discussed separately. They were gathered in a corpus of 209 idioms. Based on the comparison with their Slovene translations, the main translation strategies were identified. The comparison of examples that illustrate the characteristics of colloquial Italian reveal that the SL grammatical deviations from the codified linguistic variety were lost in translation, mostly due to the lack of similar TL structures. The effects of reproducing a colloquial language were also weaker on the lexical level: the results of the corpus analysis show that half of the idioms were translated as non-phraseological lexical units. The most frequent translation strategy is a literal translation or a free-word combination preserving the original lexical items. Findings regarding the most appropriate translation strategies of idioms when dealing with a colloquial linguistic variety can be summed up in the conclusion that the idioms% expressive connotations and their frequency in the SL should be preserved in the TL rather than their idiomatic nature.
