  • Micronisation of pharmaceuticals using supercritical fluids
    Knez, Željko
For the production of particles with micro and submicron size, several methods using supercritical fluids are used in the recent time (HPC, RESS, GASR, GASP, SEDS, PCA, PGSS, CPF). These methods will ... be compared in terms of their technological properties (mode of operation, gas consumption, pressure, volume of high pressure equipment, separation of solids from gas andliquid). A review of application of the above mentioned processes for micronisation of pharamaceuticals will be presented. A relatively new process for the formation of particles from gas saturated solutions (PGSS) will be presented in detail. Pharmaceuticals - practically water insoluble nifedipine and felodipine were processed by the PGSS process, with the aim to increase dissolution rate and enhance bioavailability.
