  • Sensitivity of HSLA steels to LBZ appearance applying CGHAZ synthetic micro-structures method for simulation of multi-pass weld joints

    LBZ in the HAZ of real weld joints can be identified by metallography in combination with hardness measurements or by toughness measurements. Synthetic HAZ microstructure is efficiently used in ... welding research. Samples of material were prepared by simulation of thermal conditions during weld joint execution. The most dangerous areas of HZ in relation to the possibility of brittle fracture appearance are LBZs. Brittle fracture initiation can be provoked by low material toughness or by interaction between material and the existing crack-like defects.
