    The paper presents a new method for studying the processes for the separation of multicomponent mixtures. A thermodynamically oriented procedure, developed for the analysis and synthesis of the best ... heat integrated distillation system, was used for systematic ranking of possible schemes in order to verify the best structure of heat integrated sequences introduced. Distillation columns were studied according to their ability for heat integration. The proposed selection of possible distillation column sequences using rising integrability criteria gave a very good approximation of the best heat integrated distillation column sequences according to total annual cost. A computational simulation of the process and pinch analysis were used for thermodynamic optimization of energy consumption. The method is illustrated with a six-component example.
