    Backgraund. After the presentation the work of Marcus Gerbezius, who in 1717 was the first in the world describing the symptomatology of complete cardiacock the development of sloveninan cardiology ... is shown with the introducing of electrocardiography in 1934, the catheterization of the heart in 1951 and with the creation of open heart surgery in 1958; at that time Lavri; successfully operated the interatrial septum defect. In 1965 the first cardiac pace-maker and first artificial heart valve were implanted. The coronary unit for intensive care of coronary patient was found in 1968. Duringthe years 1970/71 the coronarography was developed. In 1971 the first aorto-coronary by-pass surgery was performed. Košak was the first in the worldwho in 1986 successfully realized the autotransport of the heart. In 1990the first transplantation of the human heart in Slovenia was made.
