  • Genetic approximation method for surface quality prediction
Kovačič, Miha, 1974- ; Brezočnik, Miran
The evolutionary computation is a common name for the optimisation methods imitating Darwinian findings about evolution of the biological species and the survival of the fittest organisms. The common ... characteristic of the evolutionary computation is that the optimum or near optimum solution of the problem is formed gradually, from generation to generation. Similarly as nature arts during the improvement and evolution of biological systems. ln the last decade the use of evolutionary computation has become widespread. This is due to the fact that many systems are too complex to be successfully optimised by the use of conventional deterministic algorithms. In this paper the focus is particularly on the newdiscovered genetic algorithm, which we named a genetic approximation and it is used to optimise the presumed mathematical model. In addition, a practical example of the use of genetic approximation method for predicting surface quality of Monel alloy is presented. Two sets of experimental data was used: first set of 8 experimental data to determine prediction model and second set of 10 experimental measurements to verify the model.
