  • Pogostost uporabe gumijaste opne med slovenskimi zobozdravniki = Frequency of rubber dam use among slovenian dentists
    Samec, Tomi
Backgrounds. The dental dam is a very practical and easy to use tool during work procedures in dental medicine. It protects the working field against saliva contamination, it protects dentists ... against infections, and it protects patients against the aspiration or swallowing of dental instruments, irrigants, and amalgam particles. It is most commonly used during root canal treatments. When conducting the survey, we were interested in how Slovenian dentists follow the trend of using the rubber dam. Methods. As part of the 14th Symposium of Dental Diseases and Endodontics in Bled on 8th and 9th April 2011, 580 questionnaires were distributed during the meeting. The questionnaire included data on gender, working sector, working experience, education of the dentist and the methods of performing root canal treatment. Statistical significance was set at p <-0.05. Descriptive statistics methods were used to describe the data. For the evaluation of statistically significant influence of gender, working sector, working experience and education on the frequency of rubber dam use among dentists, the x2 test was used. Results. The questionnaire was completed by 153 dentists, which is 26.4% of the respondents. Most dentists (59.5%) have never used a rubber dam. Education and gender statistically significantly influenced the use of the rubber dam. Discussion. Slovenian general dentists rarely use the rubber dam in contrast to endodontic specialists who use it always.
