  • Klinični pomen dokazovanja sestavin naravne odpornosti - fagocitoza = The clinical importance of evaluation of the phagocytic function as a part of the innate immunity
    Simčič, Saša
The phagocytic response involves the receptor-mediated binding and internalisation of invading pathogens, the activation of a NADPH-oxidase catalysed oxidative burst and the release of microbicidal ... and degradative granular proteins. neutrophils from patients with X-linked chronic granulomatous disease fail to produce a significant oxidative burst following stimulation. We have used phorbol myristate acetate and apsonised zymosan A asinducers of luminol-enhanced chemiluminescence as a routine screening for deficiences of the neutrohil oxidative burst and serum opsonic activity. neutrophils from six patients with X-linked chronic granulomatous disease produced no peak chemiluminescence with respect to healthy individuals; three of them had normal, and one patient had reduced serum opsonic activity. When serum samples of three chronic granulomatous disease patients were tested during a period of nonsystemic fungal infection, significantly elevated levelsof myeloperoxidase and lactoferrin determined by ELISA were found. The chronic granulomatous disease patient without infection had normal serum levels of granular proteins. Our data suggest that this model seems to be appropriate for detecting phagocytic function deficiencies.
