Mortalitet zbog raka u Sloveniji = Cancer related mortality in SLovenia

Cancer fighting and epidemiology of malign diseases became one of the highest medical priorities in the recent years. Data on cancer related deaths and the incidence of the disease are the data ...required to assess the results of the treatment, recovery of the patient and trends in it, the evaluation of specific preventive measures, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Data on the deceased are also a basis for scinetific research. In this paper the cancer related mortality in Slovenia was presented and related to some socio-economic facts obtained from the death reports. The data on the cancer related deaths in the 1985-1994 period were used. In reviewing the time trendsin individual subgroups the whole population was considered. In relatingsome reasons for the mortality to the socio-economic facts, the population was divided in two age groups with regard to sex: the younger age group 30-64 years older group at the age of 65 and over. A method of direct age standardisation was applied using the old European standard population anddiscrimination analysis. As dependent variables (hased on criteria) the younger and the older age group were ued separately with regard to their sex, as well as the independent variables (predictively those that could be obtained from the death reports). The results of the analysis showed that a real standardised cancer related mortality increased in both men and women, but more in men. The greatest deviation from the age standardised mortality inmen with respect to the regional distribution in comparison with whole Slovenia was 10%, and in women 8%.(Abstract truncated at 2000 characters.)
