  • Refleksija aktualnega družbenega dogajanje v najnovejši slovenski dramatiki
    Pezdirc-Bartol, Mateja
If dramatic texts by Dominik Smole, Dušan Jovanović, Drago Jančar, Rudi Šeligo and others which have critically pointed to the mechanisms of authority, revolution and totalitarian regimes belong to ... the Slovene literary canon, then in the democratic society where everybody stands for the same goals, where everybody is a winner and no conflicts arise, there is no place for political drama as we knew it in the Slovenia of the 1960s, '70s and '80s.The article focuses on several of the most recent Slovene dramatic texts in which a reflection on actual social phenomena is evident. Most frequently, this consideration is implicit, for it is drama of individual privacy and intimacy that has prevailed in the Slovene space since 1991. Dramatists revealtheir sensibility to deprived marginal groups; they explore mechanisms of violence and the relationships between public and private, or between the fictitious and the real; they uncover different forms of manipulation and show the emptiness of mutual relations and the like. Next we analyse two more explicit political dramas, that is, Lipicanci gredo v Strasbourg (The Lipizzaners Go to Strasbourg) by Boris A. Novak and Razred (Class) by Matjaž Zupančič. The first deals with the fate of the Lipizzaner horses, a Slovene national and cultural symbol, and the second with the position of employees in neoliberal capitalism. Novak's text has activist intentions in that it explicitly supports a specific idea, while Zupančič's text is notionally diverse and ambiguous - an open space for contemplation and questioning. Despite differences between these two texts in their genre and principal ideas, or motives, both of them inscribe themselves into the wider endeavours of the entire scope of contemporary European literature to find identity after the decay of the imposed identification systems.
