  • Dry deposition measurements of ozone in the complex terrain in the Triglav National Park, Slovenia
    Gomišček, Boštjan
Dry deposition measurements of ozone and nitrogen dioxide based on the flux-gradient method were performed for the first time in Slovenia over a spruce forest at the high plateau Pokljuka (1200 m ... a.s.l.) in the Alpine area of the Julian Alps. The field campaign was organized between October 12 and November 3, 1994. The contribution will present the pollution situation as well as results of the calculations of deposition fluxes of ozone based on the in-situ measurements, which were performed during the field measurement campaigns. In the complex terrain a local wind system develops regulary with a day-time up-flow and a down-slope flow during night-time hours and maintains an air mass exchange. This phenomenon is farable for an enhanced dry deposition of trace gases onto the vegetation. The obtained results should provide a better understanding of the dry deposition of ozone onto alpine forest ecosystems and show that the air pollution is an important factor for the health of a forest, especially in alpine areas, where forests live under extreme ecological conditions, such as a short vegetation period, a shallow soil layer, cold winters, gusty winds etc.
