  • Thin flat vacuum insulating panel

    In the last ten years, interest for more energy efficient thermal insulating materials and structures led to intensive study of possible alternatives for CFC based foams. When discrete spacers are ... used as supporting elements of metal foils, exellent insulating properties of Dewars are expected to be preserved. Such a thin-wall flat all metal panel is an UHV medium vacuum range, long operating time (5-10 years) sets strict requirements for tightness and outgassing. To achieve these goals, cleaning and pretreatment of all components, special welding techniques and proper bake out procedures are essential. Some basic bacuum requirements, experimental procedures and results of pressure rise method with spinning rotor gauge (SRG), obtained on test samples, are given. It can be concluded, that with further development of support design, material and processing, this type of insulating elements could find application in several devices.
