The passage to an information society based on learning requires the acquisition of competences and new skills by librarians and documentalists, as well as the application of new library models focused on library users. The Union of Slovenian Library Associations should give more attention to the permanent evaluation of educational and training programmes, whilst inciting members to anticipate the progress of their careers.
