    An assessment of the terminal increments of trees as an indicator for describing microclimatic differences on small and geographically relatively homogeneous areas is presented. Responses to the ... environment, expressed with the terminal increments, are studied for four prevailing tree species in a valley in Julian Alps. Beside the altitude as the main factor of climatic differentiation in the valley also other growth conditions were studied to explain the deviations from the expected terminal increments of trees on individual measurement sites.
