  • Modelling and management hand in hand
Steinman, Franci ; Banovec, Primož ; Kompare, Boris
Undoubtedly, modelling, and especially mathematical modelling, has been of great use in understanding and predicting the functioning of observed complex systems. To some extent, modelling can ... substitute for expensive measurements (monitoring) and even more costly multi-scenario evaluations in real environments. Modelling can help to avoid real-life dangerous situations, which can jeopardise material, wealth, and even human lives. However, Many modellers do not master or understand completely the art and craft of modelling as a tool for a decision making process, which leads to a successful management system. This paper gives an overview of main system identification techniques and discusses the development. In the second part, system management in the light of project managementis discussed and the integration of the modelling approach with the management approach is presented. With increased complexity of modelling and management, as well as enormous potential effects which lie in their synergistic use real questions are sometimes forgotten. Knowing where we are and where we are going, knowing how to ask for the way and how to receive an answer are still the main questions
