  • Sensitivity analysis for 2-D frictional contact problems

    Analytical sensitivity analysis of large displacement frictional contact problems is derived in the paper usiong a direct differentiation method. An extended "node-to-segment" contact element for 2-D ... frictional contact problems in penalty formulation is proposed. The element allows for consistent treatment of equivalent contact area so that realistic friction laws defined in terms of spatial (Cauchy) contact tractions can be used. Required sensitivity derivatives are derived and implemented in the finite element code. The method is illustrated by two simple numerical examples
