  • The influence of colour and woven fabric construction on ultraviolet protection factor [Elektronski vir]
    Dobnik-Dubrovski, Polona
The paper reports the influence of woven fabric construction and color on ultraviolet protection factor. Weave type, fabric cover factor, fabric tightness, and color are observed in this research. ... Experiments involve forty-five woven fabrics for lightweight summer clothings, made from 100% cotton stapple yarns in five different colours. Dark colors mean better ultraviolet protection. Fabric tightness shows indirect connection with ultraviolet protection factor through type of weave. For fabric construction three woven fabric constructional parameters are essential: type of weave, yarn fineness, and warp and weft densities (fabric relatice density or fabric tightness) to develop fabric with good ultraviolet protection factor. The proposed paper provides guidelines for engineering of woven cotton fabrics to achieve sufficient ultraviolet protection facor of summer cloths on the basis of woven fabric construction and color.
