  • Evaluation of sodium benzoate synthesis kinetic parameters from calorimetric measurements [Elektronski vir]
Pečar, Darja ; Goršek, Andreja, 1961-
Evaluation of kinetic parameters is based on chemical and physical methods of analysis. However, chemical analytical methods (e.g. traditional titrimetric technique), which have been used for ... dynamically monitoring the concentration profiles so far, are time consuming, less accurate and does not allow real-time analysis of the reaction mixture. For improving analytical accuracies and to enable dynamic in-line reaction progress monitoring, state-of-theart analytic strategies are preferred. An overall kinetic model of sodium benzoate synthesis from ethyl benzoate and sodium hydroxide was developed in this study. A series of experiments were performed for this purpose in an automated RC1 reactor system (Mettler Toledo). Ethyl benzoate and sodium benzoate molar concentration profiles were monitored using the reaction calorimetry measurements. The proposed second order kinetic model provides a very accurate prediction of the experimental data. The obtained results were compared to previously published data1 obtained using FTIR based analysis system.
