  • Lead pollution of Ljubljana-Zagreb roadside soils
    Zupančič, Nina, 1963-
The level of lead pollution along the Ljubljana-Zagreb highway was establishedin 184 soil samples. The samples were taken from two depths (0,5 cmand 15-20 cm) and at different distances from the ... road. The influence of terrain morphology , prevailing winds, soil parent material and type of vegetation on soil pollution with lead was estimated. Heavy traffic was confirmed as the main source of lead pollution (average enrichment factor 17) in soils. The highest lead concentrations are localized in the topsoil and within 10 m of the roadside. Lead pollution is more pronounced in soils in road-cuts and slopes than in those on plains and artificial hills. Soil derived from carbonate rocks contain higher concentrations of lead than those derived from other parent matearials.
