  • Teaching science through inquiry in science centers

    Low levels of student understanding of science present a significant challengefor traditional educational institutions. Science centers, as informal education institutions, might have the "cure" to ... this "disease". Science centers have started to take on increasingly diverse educational roles. They are gaining recognition as a resource that supports efforts to reform the teaching and learning of science in more traditional school settings. This essay talks about science centers, their inquiry approach to teaching and learning and their relationship to formal education. In the concluding section of the article particular attention is driven to museum schools as a promising solution to the problem of low levels of student understanding of science.
