  • Izvajanje imunizacijskega programa v Sloveniji = Implementation of immunization programme in Slovenia
    Turk, Karl
Immunization is the most effective measure for prevention and control of infectious diseases. In Slovenia immunization against vaccine preventable diseases is obligatory for certain groups of the ... population. The Immunization Programme is provided by doctors physicians in the public and private health sector and co-ordinated by regional and national co-ordinators. There are 337 vaccinators and 11 co-ordinators, nominated by the Ministry of Health. According to the Immunization Programme, a minimum 95 % vaccination rate for obligatory vaccination against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, poliomyelitis, measles, rubella, mumps, Hib, hepatitis B and a minimum 90 % vaccination rate against other vaccine preventable diseases must be achieved, otherwise an additional vaccination campaign is needed. The results of the implementation of the Immunization Programme in Slovenia are good and comparable with these in higly-developed countries. With continuous vaccination, morbidity and mortality of tetanus, pertussis, measles, rubella and mumps were significantlyreduced while diphtheria and poliomyelitis were eliminated many years ago. Other vaccine preventable diseases are under control and their incidence is decreasing.
