    According to a patient's history data we assess the probability that an adverse reaction to a drug was allergic and the probable mechanism of hypersensitivity which could be responsible for the ... adverse event. We also have to consider the normal pharmacological activity of the drug. According tothese data we choose the diagnostic tests. Allergy skin tests and determination of specific IgE confirm only immediate hypersensitivity reactions. Skin tests with most drugs are not standardised and the probabilityof a false positive or false negative result is much higher than when using standardised inhalant allergens. Delayed hypersensitivity is confirmed with patch tests. Patients with immune haemolytic anaemia have a positive Coombs' test. The most definitive proof of drug allergy is a challenge test. It is also the only test for confirming pseudoallergic drug reactions.
