    In organ transplantation, beside tissue compatibility between patient and donor it is very important to find out whether the patient has HLA antibodies,which might cause an acute rejection of a ... graft. We screen sera of renal patients on the waiting list for kidney transplantation four times per year. We determine panel reactive antibodies (PRA) and the specificity of HLA antibodies and forward the data to the Eurotransplant database. With the specification of "unacceptable" HLA mismatches we make the choice of recipienteasier and safer. Before transplantation we perform cross-matching between the donor's lymphocytes and the recipient's sera. If the test appears positive the kidney is mainly transplanted to another patient from the same centre with suitable histocompatibility matching to prevent long ischemic preservation.
