    A survey of nutrition status among children aged 12-14 yrs in the Trebnje community is presented. According to the BMI standards for children - 2% of subjects were undernourished and 22,2% overweight ... (approx. half of these - 11,7% - obese and very obese). Health status of 52 overweight and obese children was examined in detail. Family history established cardiovascular risk factors in family members, personal history specifics of child's growth and development, morbidity and eating habits, clinical examination degree of physical development and presence of hypertension, and laboratory testing serum lipids (total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides) and fasting blood glucose. 60% of obese and very obese and 35% overweight children were found tohave at least one pathological blood lipid value. Differences between obese and overweight were not statistically significant in this respect and both groups are equally at risk.
