  • Health status of family practice patients in Slovenia = Ocenjevanje bolnikovega zdravstvenega in funkcionalnega stanja v splošnih ambulantah v Sloveniji

    Background. The health status has become central in assessing the quality of health care. Objectives. To measure the health status of a representative sample of the family practice patients in ... Slovenia by using the EuroQol EQ-5D questionnaire. Methods. A stratified sample of 2160 family practice patients including 60 consecutive patients aged 18 and over visiting practices under study in the study period using the EuroQol EQ-5D questionnaire. Results. 1795(83% response rate) quesrionnaires were returned completed. A moderate problem on at least dimension was reported by 73% respondents, 12% of respondents reported any extreme problem. The odds for having any problem weresignificantly higher for female sex (OR: 1.29; CI: 1.04 1.60, P=0.02). Therate of reported health care problems increased significantly with age (P<0.001). Respondents with lower education reported higher rates of problems with mobility (OR: 1.73; CI: 1.42-2.04; P<0.001), pain (OR: 1.65; CI:1.33-2.02; P<0.001), self care (OR: 2.33: CI: 1.74-3.13; P<0.001), usual activities (OR: 1.63;CI: 1.34-1.97; P<0.001), but not significant differences with anxiety or depression problems (P=0.06). Conclusions. Patients in family medicine experience very high rates of health related problems, which a familypractitioner and his primary care team have to allow for besides clinical outcomes. The EuroQol EQ-5D questionnaire proved to be a feasible instruments for the generic health status evaluation, applied in family medicine.
