    The authors describe autoimmune hepatitis as being one of the possible variants of hepatitis in childhood, especially when the other common causes are eliminated (viruses, rarely bacteria, parasites, ... poisoning, alcohol, medications and metabolic diseases). Along with the clinical picture and basiclaboratory tests of liver function, protein electrophoresis, serum autoantibodies and liver biopsy can be very helpful in the diagnostics of AIH.The presences of antibodies to liver and kidney microsomes (antiLKM 1 antibodies) as well as hypergammaglobulinaemia are very typical of AIH type II. The authors present a case of a two-yearold girl who presenfed with signs of acute hepatitis and proved to have autoimrnune hepatitis type II. Alongsidesymptomatic treatment, the immediate use of immunosupressives is veryimportant.
