  • Zdravljenje mlečnih sekalcev pri triletnih otrocih = Treatment of primary incisiors in three-year-old children
    Jevšek, Ivana
The consistent implementation of the preventive dental programme in Slovenia has resulted in a remarkable decline in the caries rates of primary and permanent teeth. Consequently, dentists can now ... devote more of their time to the treatment of primary teeth. Children affected with nursing-bottle caries may show signs of serious deterioration of their anterior teeth as early as attwo years of age. Upper incisors are more exposed to the detrimental effect of sweet liquids than the other teeth. This makes them more susceptible to caries, which often results in pulp infections and dental fractures. In two- to four-year-old children, most decayed teeth are restored. Fifty-two (3.5 %) of 1,462 children examined over the past five years had 89 severely decayed primary incisors. In 37 children, a total of 63 decayed incisors (21 vital and42 avital) were successfully treated, whereas 15 children with 26 decayed incisors (29.2 %) could only be offered emergency care. These encouraging results suggest that the decision to treat decayed primary incisors can be justified on medical grounds.
