  • Bronhoskopija na intenzivnem oddelku = Bronchoscopy in the intensive care unit (ICU)

    Since critically-ill patients cared for in the ICU may be too unstable to movesafely, they are evaluated by bedside diagnostic procedures. Bronchoscopy in the ICU may be done for diagnostic or ... therapeutic purposes. Fibre-optic bronchoscopy is used to remove thick mucous secretions and plugs from the airway, to obtain microbiological specimens from the lower respiratory tract, to diagnose and control haemoptysis, and to identify endobronchial obstructionand traumatic airway injury. Bronchoscopy is performed under close cardiorespiratory monitoring with the patient adequately ventilated and oxygenated. The rate of complications occurring during and after bronchoscopy is very low. There is, however, still a diversity of opinion concerning the use of bronchoscopic lung biopsy in the ICU setting.
