  • Primerjava med amplitudno povprečenim elektroencefalogramom in standardnim elektroencefalogramom pri novorojenčkih = Comparison between amplitude integrated electroencephalogram and standard EEG in newborns
    Osredkar, Damjan ...
Background. Authors present and discuss new technique of continuous function monitoring, which has recently become often used method abroad, especially on neonatal intensive care units. The method is ... designed upon the use of amplitude integrated electroencephalogram (aEEG). This report represents our first exeperiences with this technology also in Slovenia. Material and methods. Two groups of newborns (high-risk and low-risk) who were treated at two different neonatal units in Ljubljana are presented, and who all have had aEEG performed during early neonatal period. The recordings were later classified according to the severity and compared with the results of standard, digital electroencephalogram (EEG). Results. Both groups revealed high comparative values regarding the ictal activity on standard EEG and aEEG respectively. The high-risk group revealed 66.7% sensitivity and 100% specificity while 50.0% sensitivity and 96% specificity was found in the low-risk group. Conclusions. Our results in high-risk group newborns are comparable with those found by the other authors. In the low-risk group lower sensitivity was found most probable due to underestimated events such are ictal, lowamplitude and short epileptiform bursts on aEEG. We would like in future to compare these results with fmal outcome of these children and to compare them with their psychological an neurological status at later age.
