    Among children and adolescents with urinary tract disorders steroids are most often used to treat patients with the nephrotic syndrome, less frequently in patients with nephritis in systemic lupus ... and patients with severe renal impairment caused by Henoch-Schonlein vasculitis or acute tubulointerstitial nephritis and rarely in patients with idiopathic membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis. The use of steroids in patients with the nephrotic syndrome, in which the entire treatment decision and prognosis of the disease are based on the response to steroid treatment, is described. In children and adolesecents after renal transplantation, steroids are used in conjunction with other immunosupressive agents during maintance treatment or alone in the treatment of the acute cellular rejection reaction. The most common side effects of steroid treatment in patients with urinary tract disorders are cited. In describing the different therapeutic schemes offered by foreign authors, the characteristics of steroid treatment in Slovenia are emphasised.
