  • Reserved optimism : preventive archaeology and management of cultural heritage in Slovenia

    Following legislative changes in 2008, considerable modifications have marked the last two years in the management of cultural heritage in Slovenai. Some ofthe more profound changes occured in the ... broad field of preventive archaeology. Firstly a new, mainly research oriented, operational body, th Centre for preventive archaeology (CPA), was founded within the Institute for protection of cultural heritage of Slovenia (IPCHS). Its duties are largely connected with the execution of archaeological research preceding the National spatial plans (NSP) and subsidised research, the last also a novelty introduced by new legislation. The work already carried out in the first 15 months of CPA's operation are encouraging, but also show posibbilities for improvement.
