    Zdravniški vestnik is the Slovene national medical journal, its first issue dating 65 years back. Editorial staff have regularly updated its standards to match the international criteria for medical ... literature. Zdravniški vestnik has been expanded over the years and its quality standardized in regular issues as well as in supplements. Ever since Slovenia became an independent state, Zdravniški vestnik has represented a considerably smaller population; who demand, however, more quality writing and more post-graduate education for doctors. Principal objectives of Zdravniški vestnik: - meeting professional needs of Slovene doctors, - publishing professional articles and research reports written by Slovene doctors to gain international recognition of Slovene medicine, - meeting intellectual, cultural and social needs of a wide circle of Slovene doctors and the Slovene Medical Association.The increasing volume of work and new objectives require partial professionalization in editorship. One way to gain more international recognition would be to have more supplements and regular issues containing original reserarch reports in English.
