    In Slovenia, like in other development countries, the majority of preschool children die of injuries and poisoning, The purpose of this contribution is toidentify the most threatening causes for the ... rise of injuries in preschool children at the possibilities for injuries prevention, and thus to contribute to the increase of the knowledge on injuries and poisonings in Slovenia, In the years 1988 - 1996, 24 preschool children on average died yearly of accidental injuries and poisonings and 1540 were admitted to hospital. Preschool children are most threatened by traffic accidents and drownings. Theonly exception are infants who mostly die of suffocations and traffic accidents. On the third place in all the preschool children are falls, followed by other causes (burns, poisonings, machninery and tools), depending on the child's development degree and neatness of his dwelling environment. Safety measures, control and instruction of children are necessary fopr the prevention of injuries, but expects recommend especially, the use of safety measures whenever possible.
