  • Nizkofrekvenčna elektromagnetna sevanja in rak = Low frequency electromagnetic fields and cancer
Gajšek, Peter, 1966- ; Koren, Aleš
Backgroud. The results of several recent studies that address the issue of tumor promotion by extremly low frquency electromagnetic fields (ELF) fields are discussed in this paper, along with others ... factors such as changes in gene expression and endocrine regulation that could influence carcinogenic processes. One aspect of these laboratory studies that merits attention is thefact that field levels required to elicit reproducible biological responsesare typically larger than the weak power frequency fields to which humans are commonly exposed in the home or workplace. it is major challenge for both laboratory research and biophisical modelling to elucidate plausiblemachanisms by which ELF fields could significanly affect biological noise present in living systems. Conclusions. Several contemporary hypothese on the physical and chemical mechanisms through ehich weak ELF fields have been proposed to alter the functioning to living systems are described and critically evaluated in this article.
