    New guidelines for the prophylaxis and treatment of venous thrombosis are summarised in the report of the Seventh Conference on Antithrombotic Therapy. In acutely ill patients admitted for hospital ... prevention of venous thrombosis,high prophylactic doses of low molecular weight heparin should be used. The majority of patients with acute deep venous thrombosis can be treated at home. For patients with active cancer and deep venous thrombosis, treatment with low molecular heparin is recommended for the first 3-6 months. There is no limitation on walking during the acute phase of deep venous thrombosis.
