  • The effect of globalization on European geography education

    As far as content is concerned, the author raises the question about the situation and the role of understanding one's native country at a time when individual countries are losing their identity as ... they merge into confederations. Globalisation as a process of unification may further accelerate an eclipse of the importance of individual countries. According to the survey of geography study programs, the content of regional geography tends to be limited to selected countries within the region and less attention is paid to discovering one's native country. Regional geography faces a research crisis as the result of various approaches to landscape interpretation such as economic, social, environmental and physical. Emphasis is placed on the great importance of integrative knowledge, which is basic to regional geography. However, it has not been incorporated into useful interpretation of characteristics and processes in countries, native or foreign.
