This report documents the simultaneous occurrence of aneurysmal bone cysts and fibrous dysplasia in a neonatal calf "s mandibular bone. The mandibular bones exhibited significant protrusion, cystic ...cavities, and thin woven bone spicules. Additionally, the bone trabeculae were underdeveloped with necrotic changes, and there was an absence of bone marrow and osteoblastic rimming in the woven bone. Aneurysmal bone cysts were characterized by blood-filled cystic spaces lacking epithelial or endothelial cells, separated by fibroblastic septa. In conclusion, a unique case of mandibular fibrous dysplasia displaying certain similarities to cherubism and ABC has been recorded in a calf.

The results showed that Cd exposure caused decreased performance, increased the proportion of broken and soft-shelled eggs, induced oxidative stress, affected cecal microflora, epicardial hemorrhages in the heart, focal necrosis in the liver, degeneration in the kidneys, and degenerated and necrotic seminiferous tubules in the testicles. CTB prevented Cd-induced oxidative stress in liver tissue by increasing total antioxidant status and reducing total oxidant status. In addition, CTB improved egg production and feed conversion ratio (FCR). CTB protected the cecal microflora by inhibiting Enterobacteriaceae and promoting Lactobacillus. CTB also reduced Cd-induced histopathological damage in the heart, liver, kidneys, and testicles. In conclusion, these findings suggest that CTB could be used in Cd-challenged quail, and this compound provides new insights into the toxicity of environmental Cd.

The present ...study aimed to investigate the frequency, and the presence of virulence genes, of Clostridium perfringens, Paeniclostridium sordellii and Clostridium septicum in lambs and goat kids with hemorrhagic abomasitis.
A total of 38 abomasum samples, collected from lambs and goat kids of 1 week to 1 month of age in different farms located in eastern Turkey between 2021 and 2022, were evaluated by histopathology, culture and PCR. At necropsy, the abomasum of the animals was excessively filled with caseinized content and gas, and the abomasum mucosa was hemorrhagic in varying degrees. In histopathological evaluation, acute necrotizing hemorrhagic inflammation was noted in abomasum samples. The examination of swab samples by culture and PCR revealed that C. perfringens type A was the most frequently detected species (86.84%) either alone or in combination with other Clostridium species. P. sordellii, C. perfringens type F and C. septicum were also harboured in the samples, albeit at low rates. Beta2 toxin gene (cpb2) was found in three of C. perfringens type A positive samples.
It was suggested that vaccination of pregnant animals with toxoid vaccines would be beneficial in terms of protecting newborn animals against Clostridial infections. This study investigated the presence of clostridial toxin genes in abomasal samples for the first time in Turkey.

In this study, the therapeutic effects of puerarin on Xanthium strumarium toxicity, which can develop in many species and does not have a specific antidote, were investigated. A single dose of ...100 g/kg X. strumarium seeds was administered by gavage to female Sprague-Dawley rats, 6 h following which 200 mg/kg puerarin was administered by the same route, with puerarin administration being repeated daily at the same time. After completing the application, the blood, liver and kidney tissues of the rats were examined. Further, the biochemical parameters, glucose, MDA, GSH, SOD, mitochondrial Ca2+ and mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) opening levels, apoptotic factors (TUNEL, Bax and Bcl-2), ATP synthase and histopathological changes of the experimental rats were examined. The results revealed that while the administration of X. strumarium resulted in increased blood AST, ALT, ALP, LDH, CK, BUN and creatinine levels, it decreased glucose levels. In addition, it increased the MDA levels in the tissues and significantly increased the oxidative stress levels by decreasing the GSH levels and SOD activity. X. strumarium caused an increase in the mitochondrial Ca2+ and mPTP opening levels. Moreover, it increased the immunohistochemically determined ATP synthase expression and histopathologically identified necrotic liver cell death rates. Owing to its antioxidant properties and inhibitory effects on mPTP opening, puerarin administered for therapeutic purposes decreased the oxidative damage caused by X. strumarium toxicity, blood biochemical parameter levels, mitochondrial Ca2+ levels, mPTP opening, ATP synthase expression and the percentage of necrotic cells. Hence, the reduction in the liver and kidney damage in X. strumarium toxicity by puerarin indicates its potential use as an antidote for X. strumarium poisoning.

In the current study, it was hypothesized to evaluate the potential effects of hawthorn vinegar-based marinade at 3 different concentrations (25%, 50%, and 100%) and marination duration (2, 6, and ...24 h) on the physicochemical, microbiological, textural properties, microstructure, and sensory attributes of tenderloins. It was also aimed to identify and quantify the bioactive compounds present in the hawthorn vinegar that contribute to the aforementioned properties of tenderloins. The levels of organic acids, individual phenolic and flavonoid compounds, volatiles, in-vitro antioxidant capacity (DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP) of the hawthorn vinegar were analyzed. In addition, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), and inhibition zones were determined against Escherichia coli O157:H7, Salmonella Typhimurium, S. Enteritidis, and Listeria monocytogenes strains. A total of five organic acids, 21 phenolic and flavonoid compounds and 51 volatiles were determined in the hawthorn vinegar, and displayed strong antioxidant capacity determined by DPPH (470.93 ± 28.55 mg TEAC/L), ABTS (706.03 ± 4.88 mg TEAC/L) and FRAP (59.15 ± 0.50 mM FE/L) tests. The MIC and inhibition zones of the hawthorn vinegar ranged between 5.21 and 6.25%, and 9.41–11.43 mm against tested pathogens, respectively. In the tenderloin experiment, all marination treatments significantly changed the physicochemical and textural properties, microbiological status, and microstructure of the tenderloins (P < 0.05). Among them, the most effective treatment was the marination with 100% hawthorn vinegar for 24 h. In this treatment, the hardness, chewiness, springiness, and gummines values of the tenderloins were found lower than untreated tenderloins (P < 0.05). Furthermore, this treatment provided a high reduction in the number of pathogens ranging between 3.08 and 3.82 log10 CFU/g (P < 0.05) compared to the control. Although no differences were found among the groups (P > 0.05), flavor, odor, appearance, texture, and color scores of the tenderloins marinated with 100% hawthorn vinegar for 24 h were found higher than the non-marinated samples. The results of this study revealed that hawthorn vinegar contains certain levels of bioactive compounds which can help to improve the microbiological quality and textural properties of the meat parts.
Concurrent occurence of bovine papular stomatitis, rotavirus infection and cryptosporidiosis was diagnosed postmortem in a 7-days-old calf from a farm containing 65 calves of different ages. ...Multifocal papular stomatitis and rumenitis were present on necropsy. While polymerase chain reaction analysis revealed rotavirus and papular stomatitis virus infections; bovine viral diarrhea, foot and mouth disease, bovine papilloma virus and coronavirus could not be detected. Overall; concurrent co-infection with bovine papular stomatitis virus, rotavirus and cryptosporidium spp. was reported for the first time.
Sarcoid tumors were described by means of histopathological and molecular procedures in a 5-year-old donkey. Histopathological examination showed epithelial changes including hyperkeratosis, ...epithelial hyperplasia, koilocytosis, and rete peg formation. Neoplastic fibroblastic cells were plumb, large spindle to stellate and embedded in dense collagenous tissue. Results of Polymerase Chain Reaction and DNA sequence analysis showed that the etiological agent belonged to Bovine Papilloma Virus-II species in the delta papilloma virus genus. This case study represents the first report demonstrating the presence of Bovine Papilloma Virus-II in donkey sarcoid.

in dairy goats from a breeding unit in Turkey. According to history, 50 of 700 goats and kids showed the clinical signs including ...anorexia, mastitis, swelling of the joints, lameness, dyspnea and head pressing in the past 2 months. Fifteen and 6 animals were examined clinically and pathologically, respectively. Clinical examination revealed depression, weakness, pneumonia, ataxia and paresis in 15 goats. Histological lesions were composed by a varying degree of interstitial pneumonia, nonsuppurative leukoencephalomyelitis, interstitial nephritis and interstitial myocarditis. Immunohistochemical examinations showed the presence of viral antigen in tubular epithelium, in glial cells and macrophages.
In conclusion, this is the first report documenting pathological and molecular changes of Caprine Arthritis-Encephalitis Virus Infection in Turkey in goats.
