Sport is a complex social activity that encompasses various areas. This, of course, complicates the matter of its financing since it is financed by private and public sources. This is mostly due to ...the fact that certain sporting activities are considered to be public goods which are then financed by public funds, i.e. the state and local budgets. This paper reports on the analysis of public sources of sports financing. The research confirmed the assumption that in the structure of public sources the local budget prevails, i.e. money coming from local budgets is higher than that coming from central government. Based on the given data concerning local budgets for sports, a trend analysis was conducted. Finally, criteria applied when distributing local funds to sports organizations and single sports were analysed. Based on the correlation analysis, this paper shows that the amount of funds coming from local budgets is correlated with sporting performance (medals won at domestic competitions).
Sport as a social activity belongs to the service sector that becomes more and more a factor of production origination in modern economics by devising the newly created value. There is no doubt that ...sport contributes to the social and economic development of a country; however, it is difficult to accurately identify the proportion of this influence. The tools for the assessment of the value produced by this contribution have not been sufficiently elaborated yet. The profitability of sport is particularly expressed when sport-specific programs are connected with certain complementary activities. In the developed countries, and also in Croatia, there exists a large number of entrepreneurial programs, particularly in the toplevel professional sport. Such an entrepreneurial program that exhibits the union between tourism and sport, namely, the entrepreneurial program Golf in Croatian tourism will be presented in this paper. Entrepreneurship in sport, as a process of investing the resources, in this case, in the business sport-specific operations with the goal of realizing certain effects is a concept more and more frequently applied in sports.
