Poljanski rokopis je najverjetneje nastal ob koncu 18. ali v začetku 19. stoletja v kapucinskem samostanu v Škofji Loki. Zemljepisno se uvršča na področje rovtarske narečne skupine, močno zaznamovane ...z gorenjskimi narečnimi inovacijami, medtem ko je bila v času njegovega nastanka na tem področju aktualna osrednjeslovenska ali kranjska knjižna različica. Avtor rokopisa ni znan, lahko pa opredelimo naslovnika, namen nastanka besedila in razmerje do znanih predlog, versko-politične razmere v času nastanka in vpliv teh dejavnikov na jezikovno podobo rokopisa. Analiza posameznih glasovnih pojavov pokaže, da je avtor rokopisa upošteval tako protestantsko knjižno tradicijo kot tudi sočasno osrednjeslovensko knjižno različico, značilni pa so tudi številni gorenjsko-rovtarski narečni pojavi, ki za takratno osrednjeslovensko knjižno različico niso bili sprejemljivi.
Predmet prispevka je slovenska knjižna izdaja legende o sveti Genovefi z naslovom Ena Lepa lubezniva inu branja vredna historja od te po nadovžnu ven izgnane svete Grafnje Genofefe iz tega mesta ...Pfalz, izdana okrog leta 1800 v Kranju. Uvodoma povzamemo genezo legende o Genovefi ter verzije legende Martina Cochemskega, po čigar besedilu je nastal tudi slovenski knjižni prevod. Domneve, da je legendo o Genovefi v knjižni izdaji prevedel Pavel Knobl, so bile vsaj deloma ovržene. V članku postavimo tezo, da bi knjižna izdaja legende o sveti Genovefi lahko nastala tudi kot natis že obstoječega rokopisa, ki bi lahko nastal v okviru slovenske rokopisne kulture 18. stoletja in danes ni poznan. Izhodišče teze sta dejstvi, da so se dela Martina Cochemskega v slovenščini v 18. stoletju prevajala in širila v mediju rokopisne kulture, za ta medij pa je značilen tudi specifičen jezik, zaznamovan z večjo narečnostjo, variantnostjo in močnim vplivom nemškega jezika. Primerjava jezika knjižne izdaje legende o sveti Genovefi z dvema rokopisnima prevodoma pripovednih del Martina Cochemskega v slovenščino – tj. koroškega rokopisa Dober legent teh svetnikov iz sredine ali druge polovice 18. stoletja in gorenjsko-rovtarskega Poljanskega rokopisa s prehoda iz 18. v 19. stoletje – razkrije določena ujemanja, ki bi lahko nakazovala obstoj predhodnega rokopisa, nastalega v okviru rokopisne kulture. Obravnavano knjižno izdajo in rokopisno kulturo povezuje tudi kratka ljudska pobožnost v dodatku na koncu knjige, ki je v nemškem izvirniku ni.
The relationship between developments in a “real” society and the portrayal of this society in literature can be studied by analyzing the linguistic picture of the world using the componential ...analysis method. The concept of the linguistic picture of the world has been developed by various interdisciplinary directions in Europe and the US, relying on the ideas of Wilhelm von Humboldt, who conceived of language as a specific manifestation of culture. The linguistic picture of the world is an interpretation, conceptualization, and presentation of the world conveyed through language. A componential analysis was conducted to compare the semantic components of the concept of early-nineteenth-century society and the components of the same concept in a literary work of the Slovenian Biedermeier (i.e., the first original Slovenian narrative). The results of this analysis showed differences in the concept’s content that can be identified as criticism of the real society and an alternative reading option.
Quantitative approaches in studying literature already have a long tradition, reaching back to the period before digital humanities became an established field in the humanities. An important impetus ...for the establishment of quantitative methods in the humanities was provided by increasing computer power and increasingly extensive corpuses of machine-readable words. Theoretical concepts refer to the new methodological paradigms as distant reading. Even though it is supposed to replace close reading, it has repeatedly been shown that traditional research forms the necessary basis for relevant quantitative research and new relevant findings. Stylometry, or quantitative analysis of style, applies statistical methods to literary texts. The analysis entails text comparison in terms of similarities and differences in measurable text characteristics, such as the most frequent words. This is a well-proven method, which, however, has certain limitations. Stylometry is a text-immanent method that does not provide absolutely valid answers or general findings about style. In addition, the definition of measurable characteristics and the comparison method used remain in the domain of the researchers and their familiarity with the material. However, it allows a simultaneous overview of a large collection of texts and hence reaches beyond the established canon incorporating trivial literature and translated literature as an important segment of national literature, especially in its early periods. Stylometric analysis identifies text patterns, which can either be confirmed by qualitative research or can indicate the necessity for a new approach to traditional research. The visualization of results of the stylometric analysis of Slovenian narrative literature from the first half of the seventeenth century to the first original Slovenian narrative in 1836 shows the development of Slovenian narrative literature by period, with identifiable hallmarks of certain authors, and within individual periods and genres. Certain links indicate a need for further research.

Ciglerja. Raziskovalci slovenske literature so velik vpliv na nastanek tega
dela ...pripisovali bavarskemu pisatelju Christophu Schmidu, tako v vsebini kot
strukturi, ideji in pripovednemu slogu, pa tudi sledenju duhu časa in
upoštevanju tradicije. Podrobneje so se posvečali zlasti vsebinskim
primerjavam, ne pa tudi analizam podobnosti stila. S paketom Stylo v
statističnem programskem okolju R za napredne stilistične analize zbirk besedil
smo zato izvedli stilometrično analizo Ciglerjevih in Schmidovih prevedenih del
ter nekaterih prevodov pripovedne literature obravnavanega obdobja. Ob
upoštevanju določenih omejitev, kot so omejena količina besedil, prevedena in
izvirna literatura in žanrska raznolikost, je analiza potrdila izviren
Ciglerjev slog in odprla nova vprašanja glede avtorstva nekaterih del.
The first original Slovenian story,

(Fortune in Misfortune), was published by Janez Cigler in 1836.
Slovenian literature specialists have ascribed major influence on its creation
to the works of the Bavarian writer Christoph von Schmid, not only in terms of
its content, structure, concept, and narrative style, but also in following the
spirit of the time and its regard for tradition. These researchers primarily
focused on comparisons of content, but not on analyses of similarities in
style. The Stylo package in the statistical software environment R for advanced
stylistic analyses of text collections was therefore used to perform a
stylometric analysis of Cigler’s works and Schmid’s translated works, as well
as some translations of narrative prose from the period studied. Given certain
limitations—such as the limited volume of texts, translated and original
literature, and genre diversity—the analysis confirms Cigler’s original style
rather than an imitation of Schmid, raising new questions regarding the
authorship of certain works.
This paper is a follow-up and elaboration of the paper published in the JTDH 2022 Conference Proceedings on manual semantic annotation of named entities based on a proposed set of annotations for a ...corpus of modernist literary texts. We first briefly describe the corpus and introduce the annotation scheme, then focus on the results of additional analyses, and conclude with further challenges and issues we identified with respect to established NER systems and practices of related projects. Overall, we identify several categories of proper names, foreign language elements, and bibliographic citations, but focus here on the challenges of annotating names of literary characters and place names, and provide examples of the results of preliminary analyses of these entities in the corpus.

V prispevku po še neobjavljenih pismih Ljudevita Pivka iz obdobja 1897-1911 in po dokumentaciji ob Pivkovi promociji iz leta 1905 sledimo njegovim načrtom za obsežen popis širokega spektra ljudskega ...življenja v domači Novi vasi in širši okolici. Gradivo je Pivko pošiljal na Jugoslovansko akademijo znanosti v Zagreb, od koder mu je bilo leta 1911 vrnjeno z namenom, da ga za objavo dopolni in preuredi. Manjši del gradiva je Pivko objavil, velika večina pa je izgubljena.
The Poljane Manuscript, an extensive late-eighteenth-century ascetic-meditative manuscript, was created based on a German adaptation of Vita Christi (Life of Christ), a Catholic passion-play classic ...of spiritual education literature that focuses on the meditative contemplation of Christ's suffering. The motivation for creating the manuscript was its functionality and its goal was to guide the reader toward choosing an ascetic Christian life; at the same time, the numerous rhetorical and intertextual devices give the text a literary character. Several layers can be identified and analyzed in the text: a layer introducing the biblical story, which is intertextually transferred and complemented with specifiers, a layer of implicit and explicit non-underestimating argumentative persuasion and teaching, and a layer of achieving direct co-experience with the anthropomorphized Christ that is built on intertextual and rhetorical devices. This last layer also fulfills the manuscript's basic purpose.
V prispevku uvodoma predstavimo heterogenost in interdisciplinarnost digitalne humanistike kot dva osrednja in medsebojno povezana koncepta. V osrednjem delu vpeljemo uporabo metode zaznavanja ...semantičnih premikov z uporabo kontekstualnih besednih vložitev pri analizi literarnih del. Potencial metode prikažemo na primerjalni analizi pripovednih opusov Josipa Jurčiča in Ivana Cankarja, kanoničnih slovenskih avtorjev, ki sta ustvarjala v različnih obdobjih, in sicer z avtomatskim prepoznavanjem besed, katerih pomeni se med avtorjema najbolj razlikujejo. Nadaljnja interpretacija temelji na kvalitativni analizi avtomatsko pridobljenih rezultatov in na uvrščanju besed, prepoznanih kot relevantnih za razlike med Jurčičevim in Cankarjevim slogom, v pomenska polja. Pokazali smo, da je pristop, ki temelji na kontekstualnih besednih vložitvah, mogoče uporabiti za analize literature z zadovoljivimi rezultati. S tem z vidika literarne zgodovine ponujamo nov vpogled v Cankarjevo in Jurčičevo pripovedništvo, saj pokažemo, da razlika med Jurčičevim (romantičnim) realizmom in Cankarjevo moderno sloni tudi na semantiki besed, povezani z gibanjem ter družbenimi in psihološkimi dejanji in procesi.
