Throughout the United States, suburbs have seen an increasing number of immigrant populations as residents in the area. Yet, the suburban social and health services available have not developed to ...serve these immigrant groups, leading to community-based organizations (CBOs) filling in the need for service provision. However, the geographic distribution and resources available to these CBOs to serve these groups is uneven and understanding the constraints these organizations face in delivering services is crucial. Employees in CBOs themselves have crucial insights into immigrants’ needs and concerns, particularly those of immigrant women. This paper examines the understanding of CBO staffers focusing on the Latine population in Chicago and the suburbs, particularly on healthcare access barriers CBOs provide interventions on for Latina women during the COVID-19 pandemic. Qualitative data from a purposeful sample of interviews with CBO staffers during the COVID-19 pandemic supports the findings of financial and legal barriers, particularly access to information, and creative, community-based methods for interventions, specific to the experiences of Latina women.
Nowadays, the issue of teachers’ psychological well-being causes serious concern, especially in Malaysia. Many studies related to psychological well-being have focused on students rather than on the ...health and well-being of teachers. Thus, the current study investigated the determinants of psychological well-being (depression, anxiety and stress) from the psychosocial work environment (job control, job demands and social support), and examined the moderating role of job control and social support in the relationship between job demands and psychological well-being among teachers. The design of this study was quantitative research through a survey questionnaire. The sample consisted of 335 high school teachers (23.3%—male; 76.7%—female) who responded to measuring scales of job demands, job control, social support, depression, anxiety and stress, and socio-demographic profile. The data were analyzed using two statistical methods, namely descriptive and inferential statistics. The hierarchical linear regression model was used to analyze the data by assisting the statistical software, i.e., SPSS-23. The results showed that job demands, job control and social support significantly predicted teachers’ psychological well-being. Furthermore, the effect of job demands on teachers’ depression and anxiety was partially moderated by job control and social support. In conclusion, this study has successfully identified the significant predictors of teachers’ psychological well-being and the role of job control and social support as a moderating variable to teachers’ psychological well-being in Malaysia. The result provides insights and contributes to the literature of teachers’ psychological well-being determinants and involves Malaysian respondents with a collectivistic eastern culture.

The article deals with literary riddles and their role in the educational process. Currently, in the teaching methodology, the questions of working on a folk riddle are most fully developed, while ...the methodology of working on a literary riddle is studied only in separate works. Therefore, the main attention in our work is devoted to the study of literary riddles, their types and methods of correct solving. The use of various types of literary riddles in the educational process, along with folk riddles, allows to build a consistent system of working on riddles in elementary school. We have attempted to reproduce a generalized classification of Lezghin literary riddles, including a methodological aspect. The proposed classification, in combination with the thematic classification, expands the teacher's opportunities in preparing for work with the puzzle in lessons and extracurricular activities. It has been proven that the use of all types of riddles, especially riddles with comparison and metaphorical riddles, contributes to the development of imagery and metaphorical speech of younger schoolchildren, allows to consciously introduce literary examples, figurative expressions into children's speech, to inculcate the habit of using metaphors in speech. It is indicated that guessing riddles is an important stage in the development of a child.
The use of metal nanoparticles is considered a good alternative to control phytopathogenic fungi in agriculture. To date, numerous metal nanoparticles (e.g., Ag, Cu, Se, Ni, Mg, and Fe) have been ...synthesized and used as potential antifungal agents. Therefore, this proposal presents a critical and detailed review of the use of these nanoparticles to control phytopathogenic fungi. Ag nanoparticles have been the most investigated nanoparticles due to their good antifungal activities, followed by Cu nanoparticles. It was also found that other metal nanoparticles have been investigated as antifungal agents, such as Se, Ni, Mg, Pd, and Fe, showing prominent results. Different synthesis methods have been used to produce these nanoparticles with different shapes and sizes, which have shown outstanding antifungal activities. This review shows the success of the use of metal nanoparticles to control phytopathogenic fungi in agriculture.
IonoSolv pretreatment using protic ionic liquids has shown impressive biomass fractionation performance and ionic liquid recyclability. Lignin condensation during ionoSolov pretreatment can lower its ...economic value and potentially limit the valorisation of lignin to produce high value materials. Organosolv pretreatment is known for generating a high-quality lignin fraction with a large potential for value-added applications. In this study, a hybrid fractionation process was designed based on ionoSolv and organosolv pretreatments, and was tested on two representative feedstocks,
Miscanthus
and pine. Compared to ionoSolv processing, the hybrid pretreatment displayed an improved fractionation performance by generating a cellulose-rich pulp which was more enzyme-accessible, and by removing a higher proportion of lignin. Saccharification yields reached 89% and 74% for
Miscanthus
and pine, respectively. The process was also able to maintain its high fractionation performance up to 50 wt% biomass loading. HSQC spectroscopy and GPC were used to characterise the isolated lignin. Alcohol induced α-alkoxylation took place during lignin fractionation and obstructed the lignin condensation, resulting in an improved quality lignin. A technoeconomic analysis was conducted for this new hybrid pretreatment, showing lower energy consumption for the IL regeneration step at a high organic solvent concentration, suggesting lower environmental impact and higher economic potential. This ionoSolv-organosolv pretreatment could be a milestone for the development of the current ionoSolv pretreatment at commercial scale.

This paper analyzes how nonprofit organizations targeting Latine communities in the Chicago suburbs played a role in healthcare access during the COVID-19 pandemic through both political and material ...actions. Using mixed methods, this research explores the organizational and political infrastructural differences between Chicago and Chicago suburban nonprofit community-based organizations (CBOs) as they responded to the COVID-19 crisis. Data was collected through both interviews with CBO organizers, and spatial analysis of a database of nonprofit organizations in the Chicagoland area. The findings advance the concept of the infrastructure of civic institutions through finding that distance and differences in funding and collaboration amongst CBOs significantly impact the access of CBOs to structural supports to then provide for their communities. This analysis also includes the comparison of two CBOs to illustrate these geographic differences in funding and collaboration. These findings help demonstrate the need for a more collaborative and versatile design of community-based work, which moves away from the traditional nonprofit funding structure.
Functionalized gravimetric sensors are a promising path to small, versatile, real-time vapor sensors for volatile organic compounds. Many of these compounds can be dangerous to human health, but ...their nonreactive nature makes them notoriously difficult to sense. Unlike bulk acoustic resonators, chemiresistive devices have been investigated extensively and many researchers have used innovative synthesis strategies to functionalize these devices. In this work, we demonstrate how modifying a particular sensitizer for use with a bulk acoustic resonator significantly improves the sensitivity of the device (5 ppm vs. 1.11 ppm). Additionally, readout circuitry is described to avoid some problems that typically plague gravimetric sensors while simplifying the overall system. These strategies create a playbook for simple, fast, and sensitive systems for sensing volatile organic compounds, while also demonstrating the lowest limit of detection for cyclohexanone outside of gas chromatography/mass spectrometery in the literature. 2020-0053.
The article deals with Lezgi folk riddles. They can be a constituent element of many genres of folklore, although they exist in folk art as an independent genre. The analysis is focused on folk ...riddles in the “fairy tale” speech, as well as the use of various kinds of “mysterious” elements in the creation of folk tales. The riddle participates in the complication of many fairy tales. The role of the riddle in a fairy tale is controversial. Basically, the function of riddles in a folk tale is entertaining, but their role in fairy tales is also very significant for the formation of the plot. Riddles are firmly entrenched in a number of fairy tales to complicate them. Both folk tales and folk riddles are metaphorical. We study the traditional plots of Lezgi folk tales, in which we find riddles. The purpose of our study is to identify the multi-aspect interdependence of the Lezgin folk riddle as a plot-forming element in various types of fairy tales. Creative imagination often introduces a riddle into the plot of social and everyday tales “about wise answers” (“about guessing”), which most often contain the origins of difficult riddle problems. The relevance of the chosen topic is due to the lack of study of this issue in the Lezgi oral and poetic creativity.
This study investigates the use of the protic ionic liquid (IL) N,N,N-dimethylbutylammonium hydrogen sulfate DMBAHSO4 to effectively valorize and decontaminate hazardous creosote-treated timber. We ...found that DMBAHSO4 mixed with 20 wt % water is capable of fractionating creosote-treated timber into a cellulose-rich pulp and lignin stream at a high solid loading of 1:5 g g–1. Pretreatment severity plays an essential role in the process fractionation performance with delignification reaching 60% and enzymatic saccharification of cellulose-rich pulps, exceeding 70% of the theoretical maximum achieved under the highest investigated pretreatment severity conditions (170 °C, 45 min, and 20 wt % water content as a cosolvent). We report that the nonhydrophobic protic IL DMBAHSO4 is highly effective in extracting polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from the creosote embedded in the timber, producing a highly digestible, PAH-free cellulose-rich pulp. Analysis of the fate of PAH compounds in the process streams (feedstock, IL liquor, cellulose pulp, and lignin) showed the high tendency of the PAHs to precipitate with lignin upon the addition of water as an antisolvent. The study demonstrates a novel application of protic HSO4-based ILs in fractionating and decontaminating creosote-treated, unutilized hazardous biomass waste to produce inexpensive highly digestible cellulose substrates for second-generation biofuel production.
