A series of experiments was performed at the P critical facility of the National Research Center Kurchatov Institute to study neutron characteristics of the VVER type water-uranium fuel compositions ...that contain fuel pins with uranium enriched up to 6.5% in

) absorbers. Computational analysis of experiments was carried out by means of the precision MCU-PD code and the best-estimate code TVS-M, which are used for the VVER fuel cycle design. This paper describes the computational models implemented in both of these codes and presents the results of calculations of the main critical parameters in comparison with the experimental data.

A test bench for determining the wire tension of wire chambers was designed. The tension of the wires is checked by measuring the resonant frequencies of their vibrations. In this work the ...development of the key modules of the test bench and the corresponding software are presented. The results of the test stand performance during the production of detectors for the SPD Muon System Prototype (NICA/JINR) are presented.

-pyrrole-2,5-dione (9-ING-41), a new glycogen synthase ...kinase-3 inhibitor, were evaluated in 2D and 3D models of HT-29 colorectal adenocarcinoma cells. The HT-29 cells cultured in 3D were resistant to the test drugs, while in the case of the 2D model, not only cytostatic but also cytotoxic effect was observed. The highest cytotoxic effect was detected upon the addition of 9-ING-41, at high concentrations of which the cell viability decreased to 50% after 3 h of incubation. The results indicate that 3D cultures reproduce the tumor structure and drug resistance more accurately.
Bacterial inoculants of the commercially available plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) Arthrobacter mysorens 7, Flavobacterium sp. L30, and Klebsiella mobilis CIAM 880 were selected to obtain ...ecologically safe barley crop production on cadmium (Cd) polluted soils. All the PGPR immobilized 24–68% soluble cadmium from soil suspension. A. mysorens 7 and K. mobilis CIAM 880 were highly resistant to Cd and grew in up to 1 and 3 mmol CdCl2 on DAS medium respectively. All PGPR were able to fix nitrogen (276–1014 nmol mg-1 bacterial DW) and to produce indole acetic acid (IAA) (126–330 nmol mg-1 bacterial DW) or ethylene (4.6–13.5 nmol bacterial DW). All the PGPR actively colonized barley root system and rhizosphere and significantly stimulated root elongation of barley seedlings (up to 25%), growing on soil containing 5 or 15 mg Cd kg-1 of soil. Created in the simulation mathematical model confirms our hypothesis that PGPR beneficial effect on barley growing under Cd-stress is a complex process. One of mechanisms underlying this effect might be increase of bacterial migration from rhizoplane to rhizosphere, where PGPR bind soluble free Cd ions in biologically unavailable complex forms. Among the studied PGPR K. mobilis CIAM 880 was the most effective inoculant. Inoculation with K. mobilis CIAM 880 of barley plants growing on Cd contaminated soil (5 mg Cd kg-1 of soil) under field conditions increased by 120% grain yield and 2-fold decreased Cd content in barley grain. The results suggest that the using K. mobilis CIAM 880 is an effective way to increase the plant yield on poor and polluted areas.
This work presents results of isotope studies of primary igneous and sedimentary rocks of Mawson and Menzies series from the southern Prince Charles Mountains, East Antarctica. The data obtained show ...that the crystallization of the protolith of Mawson orthogneisses occurred at 3164.2 ± 9.2--3163.2 ± 7.8 Ma ago. The Mawson orthogneisses were the basement for accumulation of the deposits of the Menzies series. The maximum time of the deposition is estimated to be in a range of 3.0--3.1 Ga. The protolith of Menzies sedimentary deposits contains an admixture of the Paleoarchean material.

This work was performed within the OLYMPIA experiment on the study of tracks of heavy and superheavy cosmic ray nuclei in olivine crystals from Marjalahti and Eagle Station pallasites. Depth ...distributions of the track formation rate for heavy cosmic ray nuclei in olivine crystals from pallasites of different pre-atmospheric sizes were obtained. The dependences obtained were used to analyze the data on the track density in olivine crystals from the Marjalahti pallasite. In three crystals, the track distribution with a high density gradient was detected, which indicates a complicated radiation history of the meteorite.
Intact chloroplasts were prepared from protoplasts of the moss Physcomitrella patens according to an especially developed method. They were additionally separated into stroma and thylakoid fractions. ...The proteomes of intact plastids, stroma, and thylakoids were analyzed by 1D-electrophoresis under denaturing conditions followed by protein digestion and nano-LC-ESI-MS/MS of tryptic peptides from gel bands. A total of 624 unique proteins were identified, 434 of which were annotated as chloroplast resident proteins. The majority of proteins belonged to a photosynthetic group (21.3%) and to the group of proteins implicated in protein degradation, posttranslational modification, folding, and import (20.6%). Among proteins assigned to chloroplasts, the following groups are prominent combining proteins implicated in metabolism of: amino acids (6.9%), nucleotides (2.5%), lipids (2.2%), carbohydrates (2.4%), hormones (1.5%), isoprenoids (1.25%), vitamins and cofactors (1%), sulfur (1.25%), and nitrogen (1%); as well as proteins involved in the pentose-phosphate cycle (1.75%), tetrapyrrole synthesis (3.7%), and redox processes (3.6%). The data can be used in physiological and photobiological studies as well as in further studies of P. patens chloroplast proteome including structural and functional specifics of plant protein localization in organelles.
In this study silicon dioxide - tin dioxide nanomaterials modified by fullerenol were obtained through the sol-gel technology. The results of nitrogen thermal desorption, atomic force microscopy and ...X-ray diffraction measurements are discussed. It was shown that introducing fullerenol C60(OH)n (n = 22-24) at the stage of preparing a sol greatly affects the microstructure of composites and results in the formation of an additional system of pores with an average radius of 16 nm.
The East Antarctic Shield as it appears today consists of fragments of the early Precambrian cratons surrounded by a collage of younger orogenic belts and accreted terrains making up the ...WegenerMawson Mobile Belt. From west to east the fragments of the early Precambrian crust involve the Napier Complex, granulites of Rauer Islands and Vestfold Hills, igneous and metamorphic rocks of the Bunger HillsDenman Glacier area, and the Ruker Complex of the southern Prince Charles Mountains.
