The Sultanate of Oman is characterized by a huge and creative musical heritage that remains mostly preserved. One hundred forty-two different traditional musical genres and styles (funun) have been ...registered in the Sultanate. This study aimed to investigate the Omanis’ musical creative achievements and the psychological motives behind Omani musical creative achievements. The present qualitative study adopted ethnographic research. The two study’s questions were answered in two stages: firstly, by analysis of relevant documents of Omani genres, and secondly stage based on analysis of documentary films and direct observations. The study showed that the Omanis created such musical achievements, including many genres, rhythms, instruments, and ways of performing. Furthermore, research has shown psychological motives that motivated Omani people to create these various genres, such as provocation of enthusiasm, meditation, religious motivations, poetic competition, and emotional motivation. For each motive, musical genres have been presented.
This study investigates the impact of analogical images on students' creative abilities of novelty and offeasibility, through solving scientific and environmental problems. There are eight problems: ...fours cientific and four environmental derived from content-text of science and social studies curricula which were provided to the students The experiment was implemented over 4 weeks. Analogical images were provided to the experimental groups, whereas control groups were asked to solve the problems abstractly. The experiment was based on the activation of the cerebellumby analogical images to improve creativeabilities. A 2 × 2 factorial design was used. A total of 112 sixth-grade students (45 males & 67 females) from two government schools in Muscat governorate participated in this study. The sample was classified into four classes: two experimental and two control. The findings show that: (a) the experimental group performed better on problem-solving than the control group did; (b) design not gender has the most effect on alinear combination of novelty and feasibility; and (c) gender and design have the most effect on alinear combination of scientific and environmental problems.
The study aimed to examine the relationship between time management and work stress among the educational planning members in the General Directorate of Education in the Sultanate of Oman. It also ...aimed to identify whether there are statistically significant differences in time management and job stress among the participants with regard to the years of experience. The study sample consisted of 39 educational planning members. They completed the Time Management Behaviors Scale and Workplace Stressors Assessment Questionnaire. One of the main findings of this study was that the level of time management among the subjects was high, while the level of job stress was low. Results also showed a moderate and negative correlation between time management and job stress. No statistically significant difference in time management and job stress with regard to the years of experience was found. The results also supported the proposed theoretical model of the study. Based on the findings, the study recommended making use of the techniques that the participants apply to manage their time and to alleviate the workplace stressors they face. Furthermore, the education officials should pay more attention to enhancing the concept of time management by holding training courses and workshops for the ministry employees in order to increase their productivity, enhance job satisfaction, and reduce work pressures.
This article reviews the history of intelligence measurement in the Sultanate of Oman, based on different aspects of historical evidence. These intelligence measurements have been used to describe ...activities of the Omani citizens. Since there is no unique Omani intelligence test, researchers conducted studies to standardize different intelligence tests in the Omani environments. Nowadays, Wechsler intelligence tests are used in schools to determine whether students are eligible for special education.
