Bilayer thermal barriers coatings of Dense Ceria-Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia (D-CYSZ)/Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia (YSZ) were deposited onto Inconel 625 using atmospheric plasma spray (APS). The ...thickness of the d-CYSZ layer varied (0, 50, 100, and 150 μm), but the total thickness of the system was kept at 300 μm. The thermo-mechanical resistance of the multilayer system was evaluated through thermal shock tests, in which the bilayer systems evaluated exceeded 500 cycles with percentages of delamination of the coating below 20 % of the exposed area and showed higher thermomechanical resistance than a conventional YSZ system. Hot corrosion (HC) resistance of the bilayer system was evaluated using a salt mixture of 32 wt.% Na2SO4 and 68 wt.% V2O5 at 900 °C. The systems with a d-CYSZ layer showed higher resistance to HC, exhibiting fewer changes into the microstructure and presence of the monoclinic phase despite the presence of vertical cracks in the microstructure.
The consumer market has changed drastically in recent times. Consumers are becoming more demanding, and many companies are competing to be market leaders. Therefore, companies must reduce rejects and ...minimize their operating costs. One problem that arises in producing plastic parts is controlling deformation, mainly in the form of shrinkage due to the material and warpage associated with the geometry of the parts. This work presents a novel extended adaptive weighted sum method (EAAWSM: Extended Adaptive Weighted Summation Method) integrated into a Pareto front model. The performance of this model is evaluated against three other conventional optimization methods-Taguchi-Gray (TG), Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), and Model Optimization by Genetic Algorithm (MOGA)-and compared with EAAWSM. Two response variables and three input factors are considered to be analyzed: material melting temperature, mold temperature, and filling time. Subsequently, the performance is compared and its behavior observed using Moldflow
simulation. The results show that with the EAAWSM method, the shrinkage is 15.75% and the warpage is 3.847 mm, regarding the manufacturing process parameters of a plastic part. This proposed deterministic model is easy to use to optimize two or more output variables, and its results are straightforward and reliable.
As the installation of solar-photovoltaic and wind-generation systems continue to grow, the location must be strategically selected to maintain a reliable grid. However, such strategies are commonly ...subject to system adequacy constraints, while system security constraints (e.g., frequency stability, voltage limits) are vaguely explored. This may lead to inaccuracies in the optimal placement of the renewables, and thus maximum benefits may not be achieved. In this context, this paper proposes an optimization-based mathematical framework to design a robust distributed generation system, able to keep system stability in a desired range under system perturbance. The optimum placement of wind and solar renewable energies that minimizes the impact on system stability in terms of the standard frequency deviation is obtained through particle swarm optimization, which is developed in Python and executed in PowerFactory-DIgSILENT. The results reveal that the proposed approach has the potential to reduce the influence of disturbances, enhancing critical clearance time before frequency collapse and supporting secure power system operation.
In the absence of entomological information, tools for predicting
spp. presence can help evaluate the entomological risk of malaria transmission. Here, we illustrate how species distribution models ...(SDM) could quantify potential dominant vector species presence in malaria elimination settings. We fitted a 250 m resolution ensemble SDM for
Wiedemann. The ensemble SDM included predictions based on seven different algorithms, 110 occurrence records and 70 model projections. SDM covariates included nine environmental variables that were selected based on their importance from an original set of 28 layers that included remotely and spatially interpolated locally measured variables for the land surface of Costa Rica. Goodness of fit for the ensemble SDM was very high, with a minimum AUC of 0.79. We used the resulting ensemble SDM to evaluate differences in habitat suitability (HS) between commercial plantations and surrounding landscapes, finding a higher HS in pineapple and oil palm plantations, suggestive of
presence, than in surrounding landscapes. The ensemble SDM suggested a low HS for
at the presumed epicenter of malaria transmission during 2018-2019 in Costa Rica, yet this vector was likely present at the two main towns also affected by the epidemic. Our results illustrate how ensemble SDMs in malaria elimination settings can provide information that could help to improve vector surveillance and control.

Generation system interruptions in net-zero energy buildings (NZEBs) may result in missing the net-zero targets by a great margin. Consequently, it is significant to incorporate a realistic ...reliability model for renewable energy systems (RESs) that considers aging and long-term weather conditions. This study proposed a robust design optimization method that deals with the selection of RES to achieve NZEB. Different case studies were evaluated: 1. Deterministic approach; 2. Markov chain-based reliability without the aging effect; 3. Markov chain-based reliability with the aging effect. The results showed that the optimal sizes of RES, considering the aging effect, were much larger than the other two cases based on the annual energy balance. Moreover, the consideration of the aging effect on the reliability assessment of the generation system for NZEB opens a pathway for a more robust and economic design of RES.

The interpretation of LHC data, and the assessment of possible hints of new physics, require the precise knowledge of the proton structure in terms of parton distribution functions (PDFs). ...We present a systematic methodology designed to determine whether and how global PDF fits might inadvertently ‘fit away’ signs of new physics in the high-energy tails of the distributions. We showcase a scenario for the High-Luminosity LHC, in which the PDFs may completely absorb such signs of new physics, thus biasing theoretical predictions and interpretations. We discuss strategies to single out the effects in this scenario, and disentangle the inconsistencies that stem from them. Our study brings to light the synergy between the high luminosity programme at the LHC and future low-energy non-LHC measurements of large-
x
sea quark distributions. The analysis code used in this work is made public so that any users can test the robustness of the signal associated to a given BSM model against absorption by the PDFs.
In Mexico and many parts of the world, land cargo transport units (UTTC) operate at high speeds, causing accidents, increased fuel costs, and high levels of polluting emissions in the atmosphere. The ...speed in road driving, by the carriers, has been a factor little studied; however, it causes serious damage. This problem is reflected in accidents, road damage, low efficiency in the life of the engine and tires, low fuel efficiency, and high polluting emissions, among others. The official Mexican standard NOM-012-SCT-2-2017 on the weight and maximum dimensions with which motor transport vehicles can circulate, which travel through the general communication routes of the federal jurisdiction, establishes the speed limit at the one to be driven by an operator. Because of the new reality, the uses and customs of truck operators have been affected, mainly in their operating expenses. In this work, a mathematical model is presented with which the optimum driving speed of a UTTC is obtained. The speed is obtained employing the equality between the forces required to move the motor unit and the force that the tractor has available. The required forces considered are the force on the slope, the aerodynamic force, and the friction force, and the force available was considered the engine torque. This mathematical method was tested in seven routes in Mexico, obtaining significant savings of fuel above 10%. However, the best performance route possesses 65% flat terrain and 35% hillocks without mountainous terrain, regular type of highway, and a load of 20,000 kg, where the savings increase up to 16.44%.
With the fact that new server technologies are coming to market, it is necessary to update or create new methodologies for data analysis and exploitation. Applied methodologies go from decision tree ...categorization to artificial neural networks (ANN) usage, which implement artificial intelligence (AI) for decision making. One of the least used strategies is drill-down analysis (DD), belonging to the decision trees subcategory, which because of not having AI resources has lost interest among researchers. However, its easy implementation makes it a suitable tool for database processing systems. This research has developed a systematic review to understand the prospective of DD analysis on scientific literature in order to establish a knowledge platform and establish if it is convenient to drive it to integration with superior methodologies, as it would be those based on ANN, and produce a better diagnosis in future works. A total of 80 scientific articles were reviewed from 1997 to 2023, showing a high frequency in 2021 and experimental as the predominant methodology. From a total of 100 problems solved, 42% were using the experimental methodology, 34% descriptive, 17% comparative, and just 7% post facto. We detected 14 unsolved problems, from which 50% fall in the experimental area. At the same time, by study type, methodologies included correlation studies, processes, decision trees, plain queries, granularity, and labeling. It was observed that just one work focuses on mathematics, which reduces new knowledge production expectations. Additionally, just one work manifested ANN usage.
