Metal-organic framework (MOF) materials have achieved significant research interest in the fields of gas storage and separation over the last two decades because of the need for hydrogen utilization ...and carbon dioxide reduction. Besides, recently numerous functional MOFs have been exploited and applied in the optoelectronic field owing to some unique properties of MOF materials in those photovoltaic devices with enhanced performance and stability. This review focuses on the comprehensive summary of recent representative progress in the applications of MOFs in solar cell devices, including dye-sensitized solar cells, organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite solar cells, and organic solar cells, aiming to portray their prospects in the future.

Herein, biochars from 6 different feedstocks (taro straw, corn straw, cassava straw, Chinese fir straw, banana straw, and Camellia oleifera shell) were produced using magnesium chloride (MgCl2) as a modifier due to their sorption behavior toward NH4+-N and phosphorus in an aqueous solution. The biochar characteristics were evaluated, including pH, pHPZC, biochar magnesium content, and total pore volume (PVtot). The experimental results in terms of the kinetics and equilibrium isotherms showed that the cassava straw and banana straw biochars exhibited the theoretical maximum saturated adsorption capacities of 24.04 mg·g−1 (NH4+-N) and 31.15 mg·g−1 (TP), respectively. Biochar produced from these feedstocks had higher magnesium contents and greater total pore volumes, reflecting the significant contributions from magnesium and steric effects. FTIR, XRD, and SEM/EDS analyses demonstrated that NH4+-N and TP sorption mechanisms predominantly involved surface electrostatic attraction, Mg2+ precipitates and complexation with surface hydroxyl functional groups.
NanoCluster Beacons (NCBs) are multicolor silver nanocluster probes whose fluorescence can be activated or tuned by a proximal DNA strand called the activator. While a single‐nucleotide difference in ...a pair of activators can lead to drastically different activation outcomes, termed polar opposite twins (POTs), it is difficult to discover new POT‐NCBs using the conventional low‐throughput characterization approaches. Here, a high‐throughput selection method is reported that takes advantage of repurposed next‐generation‐sequencing chips to screen the activation fluorescence of ≈40 000 activator sequences. It is found that the nucleobases at positions 7–12 of the 18‐nucleotide‐long activator are critical to creating bright NCBs and positions 4–6 and 2–4 are hotspots to generate yellow–orange and red POTs, respectively. Based on these findings, a “zipper‐bag” model is proposed that can explain how these hotspots facilitate the formation of distinct silver cluster chromophores and alter their chemical yields. Combining high‐throughput screening with machine‐learning algorithms, a pipeline is established to design bright and multicolor NCBs in silico.
Approximately 40 000 distinct NanoCluster Beacons (NCBs) are screened on next‐generation sequencing chips and new NCBs that outperform the known best NCBs are identified. Dramatic fluorescence changes are observed by substituting a single nucleotide in an NCB, which can be explained by the proposed zipper‐bag model. Combining high‐throughput screening with machine‐learning algorithms, bright and multicolor NCBs are designed in silico.
Hybrid perovskite materials are famous for their great application potential in photovoltaics and optoelectronics. Among them, lead‐iodide‐based perovskites receive great attention because of their ...good optical absorption ability and excellent electrical transport properties. Although many believe the ferroelectric photovoltaic effect (FEPV) plays a crucial role for the high conversion efficiency, the ferroelectricity in CH3NH3PbI3 is still under debate, and obtaining ferroelectric lead iodide perovskites is still challenging. In order to avoid the randomness and blindness in the conventional method of searching for perovskite ferroelectrics, a design strategy of fluorine modification is developed. As a demonstration, a nonpolar lead iodide perovskite is modified and a new 2D fluorinated layered hybrid perovskite material of (4,4‐difluorocyclohexylammonium)2PbI4, 1, is obtained, which possesses clear ferroelectricity with controllable spontaneous polarization. The direct bandgap of 2.38 eV with strong photoluminescence also guarantees the direct observation of polarization‐induced FEPV. More importantly, the 2D structure and fluorination are also expected to achieve both good stability and charge transport properties. 1 is not only a 2D fluorinated lead iodide perovskite with confirmed ferroelectricity, but also a great platform for studying the effect of ferroelectricity and FEPV in the context of lead halide perovskite solar cells and other optoelectronic applications.

The fabrication of multidimensional organometallic halide perovskite via a low‐pressure vapor‐assisted solution process is demonstrated for the first time. Phenyl ethyl‐ammonium iodide (PEAI)‐doped ...lead iodide (PbI2) is first spin‐coated onto the substrate and subsequently reacts with methyl‐ammonium iodide (MAI) vapor in a low‐pressure heating oven. The doping ratio of PEAI in MAI‐vapor‐treated perovskite has significant impact on the crystalline structure, surface morphology, grain size, UV–vis absorption and photoluminescence spectra, and the resultant device performance. Multiple photoluminescence spectra are observed in the perovskite film starting with high PEAI/PbI2 ratio, which suggests the coexistence of low‐dimensional perovskite (PEA2MAn−1PbnI3n+1) with various values of n after vapor reaction. The dimensionality of the as‐fabricated perovskite film reveals an evolution from 2D, hybrid 2D/3D to 3D structure when the doping level of PEAI/PbI2 ratio varies from 2 to 0. Scanning electron microscopy images and Kelvin probe force microscopy mapping show that the PEAI‐containing perovskite grain is presumably formed around the MAPbI3 perovskite grain to benefit MAPbI3 grain growth. The device employing perovskite with PEAI/PbI2 = 0.05 achieves a champion power conversion efficiency of 19.10% with an open‐circuit voltage of 1.08 V, a current density of 21.91 mA cm−2, and a remarkable fill factor of 80.36%.

Physical activity has benefits on physical and psychological health. The aims of this study were to investigate (1) the relationships between physical activity and life satisfaction and happiness in ...young, middle-aged, and older adults while controlling for demographic characteristics, and (2) the relationships between age and life satisfaction and happiness for different physical activity levels. A total of 2345 healthy adults were recruited. Demographic characteristic, physical activity, life satisfaction, and happiness were collected. Participants were divided into young, middle-aged, and older adult groups based on age, and physical activity was categorized as high, moderate, and low. After controlling for demographic characteristics, participants with high and moderate activity levels had significantly higher life satisfaction and happiness than those with a low activity level across the total population and the three age groups. Age squared was a significant predictor of a positive curvilinear between age and life satisfaction and happiness. Physical activity was significantly related to life satisfaction and happiness in young, middle-aged, and older adults. In addition, life satisfaction and happiness increased with increasing age. The results support the promotion of physical activity.
There is a growing interest in cell therapies using mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) for repairing bone defects. MSCs have the ability to differentiate into osteoprogenitors and osteoblasts as well ...as to form calcified bone matrix. However, the molecular mechanisms governing mineralization during osteogenic differentiation remain unclear. Non-collagenous proteins in the extracellular matrix are believed to control different aspects of the mineralization. Since osteocalcin is the most abundant non-collagenous bone matrix protein, the purpose of this study is to investigate the roles of osteocalcin in mineral species production during osteogenesis of MSCs. Using Raman spectroscopy, we found that the maturation of mineral species was affected by osteocalcin expression level. After osteocalcin was knocked down, the mineral species maturation was delayed and total hydroxyapatite was lower than the control group. In addition, the expression of osteogenic marker genes, including
, alkaline phosphatase, type I collagen, and osteonectin, was downregulated during osteogenic differentiation compared to the control group; whereas gene expression of osterix was upregulated after the knockdown. Together, osteocalcin plays an essential role for the maturation of mineral species and modulates osteogenic differentiation of MSCs. The results offer new insights into the enhancement of new bone formation, such as for the treatments of osteoporosis and fracture healing.
Learning meaningful and general representations from unannotated speech that are applicable to a wide range of tasks remains challenging. In this paper we propose to use autoregressive predictive ...coding (APC), a recently proposed self-supervised objective, as a generative pre-training approach for learning meaningful, non-specific, and transferable speech representations. We pre-train APC on large-scale unlabeled data and conduct transfer learning experiments on three speech applications that require different information about speech characteristics to perform well: speech recognition, speech translation, and speaker identification. Extensive experiments show that APC not only outperforms surface features (e.g., log Mel spectrograms) and other popular representation learning methods on all three tasks, but is also effective at reducing downstream labeled data size and model parameters. We also investigate the use of Transformers for modeling APC and find it superior to RNNs.
In this study, the negative bias temperature instability (NBTI) under mechanical strain conditions of low-temperature polycrystalline silicon thin-film transistors (LTPS TFTs) with a stress-release ...structure was investigated. With both electrical and mechanical stresses simultaneously applied, more significant degradation behaviors will be observed in standard TFT devices because mechanical stress makes it easier to generate strain in Si-H bonds, thus benefiting the process of electrochemical reaction. By employing a stress-release shape in the poly channel, mechanical stress, which mainly accumulates at the width edge of the poly-Si/SiO 2 interface, is moved away from the main channel; thus, fewer strained Si-H bonds can participate in the electrochemical reaction compared to the standard structure. Therefore, the degradation of devices under strained NBTI is effectively mitigated, such that the reliability of the devices is enhanced. These observations were obtained using electrical characteristics and extraction of the trap state distribution.
In this paper, we investigate the action growth in various backgrounds in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory. We calculate the full time evolution of action growth in the anti–de Sitter dilaton black ...hole and find it approaches the late time bound from above. We investigate the black hole which is asymptotically Lifshitz and obtain its late time and full time behavior. We find the violation of Lloyd bound in the late time limit and show the full time behavior approaching the late time bound from above and exhibiting some new features for z sufficiently large.
