This study presents a list of anurans associated to bromeliads in Parque Estadual da Serra do Brigadeiro, state of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil. It also brings information regarding the type of ...association between these anurans and plants. We recorded eight species belonging to five genera and two families, Cycloramphidae and Hylidae. The most abundant species was Scinax gr. perpusillus, followed by Scinax aff. perereca, Dendropsophus minutus, Bokermannohyla circumdata, Hypsiboas faber, Thoropa miliaris, Hypsiboas polytaenius and Dendropsophus elegans. Most species observed occupying bromeliads uses these microhabitats only as diurnal shelter. Scinax gr. perpusillus was the only classified as bromeligenous, depending upon the plants to complete its reproductive cycle.

The Atlantic Forest is one of the tropical forests with higher rates of habitat loss and intensive process of forest fragmentation. The great agricultural pressure is the major cause of this fragmentation. The forest fragmentation process decreases the heterogeneity of habitat that is a main factor that affects the animal communities. This study aimed to measure the impacts of agricultural crops on animal communities, and on her adjacent forest fragments. We use the ant community as the dependent variable for our hypotheses: (1) the type of planting agricultural (matrix) influence in the community of ants? (2) The edges of forest fragments are more susceptible to the type of adjacent matrix, IE, what type of matrix influence more on the edges; (3) There is a change in the community with the distance from inside the forest fragment. We obtained the samples in nine forest fragments and nine agricultural matrices, three on each type of crop (coffee, sugar cane and pasture). Altogether, we use 180 pitfall traps, which we installed in a distance gradient from center of the matrix to center of forest fragment. We subdivided the gradient transect in interior of the forest fragment, edge of the forest fragment, edge of agricultural matrix and interior the agricultural matrix. The richness varied for the types of adjacent forest fragments and agricultural matrices (p <0.05). Pasture matrices and forest fragments adjacent to pasture and coffee, had a low richness of ants species. While arrays of coffee and sugar cane, together with the forest fragments surrounded by sugar cane had a higher richness. Even that the richness of species of coffee being less it had a higher similarity to forest fragments. The distance gradient analysis also showed that there was a significant difference, among the stratum (p <0.oS). We made post-hoc analysis, to discover where was the difference. The difference had two levels: l) Interior (Agricultural Matrices of Pasture and Forest Fragments of Coffee and Pasture) and Edge (Agricultural Matrix of Coffee, Sugar Cane and Pasture, and Forest Fragment of Coffee and Forest Fragment of Sugar Cane) and Edge (Forest Fragment of Sugar Cane). We observed the functional guilds in the fragments, generalist ants were majority (35%), but there was also a high rate of predatory ants (32%). While in agricultural matrix the generalist ant had more than 48% of sampled, and just over 16% of predators. We have strong evidence that community of ants are influenced by vegetation structure, in this case of the type of agricultural culture. And agricultural matrix of vegetation of small size, such as pasture, affect negatively the community of ants and cause a huge degradation in forest fragments, while agricultural matrix with a high vegetation tend to endure greater biodiversity.

•We reviewed the use of network science in sustainable agriculture.•Network science can be used to understand, harness and restore ecological processes in agricultural ...systems.•Social, economic and ecological aspects of agriculture can be incorporated using novel methods.•Agricultural systems can be managed using a network-based framework.
The global challenge of feeding two billion more people by 2050, using more sustainable agricultural practices whilst dealing with uncertainties associated with environmental change, requires a transformation of food systems. We present a new perspective for how advances in network science can provide novel ways to better understand, harness, and restore multiple ecological processes in agricultural environments. We describe: (i) a network-focused framework for managing agro-ecosystems that accounts for the multiple interactions between biodiversity and associated ecosystem services; (ii) guidance for incorporating socio-economic factors into ecological networks; and (iii) the potential to upscale network methods to inform efforts to build resilience, including global food-supply chains. In doing so we aim to facilitate the application of network science as a systems-based way to tackle the challenges of securing an equitable distribution of food.
