The article attempts to highlight concepts such as knowledge society, lifelong learning, competencies, etc.., which are central in today's political discourse as well as the professional arena. ...Exposed concepts are discussed in light of changes in the very concept of knowledge as a result of their introduction to the field of education and science as well as in other areas of society. In addition, these changes exist within the paradigm of society and within the very substance of its fields. Knowledge transferred from its traditionally inherent fields of society to the economic field enables school, education, science, etc. to themselves become also agents of neoliberalism, not just merely a place for the exercise of neo-liberal ideas. PUBLICATION ABSTRACT
The paper is focused on the asumption from contemporary studies showing that
students whose parents have lower levels of education are underrepresented in
student populations in Serbia and Slovenia, ...as well as Bourdieu?s claims that
in capitalist societies subjective expectations are affiliated with objective
chances. We investigated if educational expectations are in correlation with
parental education in this post socialist countries. Bearing in mind
different paths of post socialist transformations in these two examined
countries, we also tested if this correlation of parental education and
educational expectations is different in two countries, or this correlation
is stronger in slovenian society. In order to achieve this, we conducted
survey among final year high school students in Serbia (n=1973) and Slovenia
(n=867). Results are showing that in both, Serbia and Slovenia, higher
educational level of parent is correlated with higher educational aspirations
of child, as well as with their previous educational choices (type of high
school attended). Also, it is remarked that the correlation is stronger in
Slovenia, which can be explained by different dynamics of post socialist
transformation.

In the presented paper, perceptions of science amongst the youth were investigated. 470 high school students (younger students) and 8zs university students (older students) completed questionnaire. ...These questionnaires tapped into the attitudes towards science, perception of contribution of scientific disciplines to social prosperity and science-related behaviour. Four groups (types) with distinct perceptions of science were found in younger students, which were defined according to the prevailing belief expressed in the attitudes, social perception of science, and related behavior: Science is beneficialfor the society, Development of technology and medicine is important due to its usefulness/applicability, Science is not important, and Science is not appreciated in society. Amongst older students, four groups were found also. Three were content related to the first three of the younger students, whereas the fourth was expressed in the belief: Science has its place in society. A comparison of types between the two samples showed that twice as many younger students than older ones demonstrated a high respect for science. The share of students that do not appreciate science is similar in both samples. Also an equal share of younger and older students favour applied science. Science is not important occurred twice as much amongst older students than younger. In younger students, the perceptions of science were related to the program of uppersecondary school, SES and gender. They were related to the field of study in older students. PUBLICATION ABSTRACT
In the study, we have investigated whether the social changes of the priorities in the value of knowledge in the domain of education were reflected in high-school and university students' value of ...knowledge. The study was based in the social representation theory, and studied the characteristic attitudes, social perception and behaviour in the domain of education that focused on the prescribed priorities of knowledge declared in the knowledge society, e.g. priorities of a) applicable knowledge vs. basic, b) competencies vs. knowledge, and c) the central position of knowledge in the society. The study was conducted on the representative samples of high-school and university students in Slovenia. The differences in the perception of knowledge amongst students enrolled in various educational programs, and with different grades, gender, and SES were analysed. The results show that all of the three social priorities in the value of knowledge are at least partly incorporated in the youth perception of knowledge. More differences in the attitudes, perceptions and behaviour are related to the school program than to the grades, gender and SES in high-school and university students. PUBLICATION ABSTRACT
Iris Murdoch was one of the best-known philosophers and novelists of the post-war period. In this book, Sabina Lovibond explores the tangled issue of Murdoch's stance towards gender and feminism, ...drawing upon the evidence of her fiction, philosophy, and other public statements.
As well as analysing Murdoch's own attitudes, Iris Murdoch, Gender and Philosophy is also a critical enquiry into the way we picture intellectual, and especially philosophical, activity. Appealing to the idea of a 'social imaginary' within which Murdoch's work is located, Lovibond examines the sense of incongruity or dissonance that may still affect our image of a woman philosopher, even where egalitarian views officially hold sway.
The first thorough exploration of Murdoch and gender, Iris Murdoch, Gender and Philosophy is a fresh contribution to debates in feminist philosophy and gender studies, and essential reading for anyone interested in Murdoch's literary and philosophical writing.

"In this admirable study, Sabina Lovibond examines some of the most interesting and yet neglected aspects of Iris Murdoch’s philosophy, such as gender and sexual equality. Drawing on Murdoch’s novels and philosophical essays, this is a remarkably lively and enjoyable reading." - Carla Bagnoli, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, USA
"In the context of contemporary philosophy, where Murdoch's work is either neglected or treated with reverence, this critical interest is more than welcome. Lovibond's book is also sharp, well-written and exposes a serious, urgent real-life interest in its theoretical subject matter." – Notre Dame Philosophical Reviews
"In a detailed analysis of Iris Murdoch's novels, viewed in relation to her moral philosophy, Lovibond opens a space of reflection on the question of what philosophy can be, and what place women (still underrepresented) might have in the discipline and, more generally, as public intellectuals. ... Summing Up: Recommended. Upper-level undergraduates and above." - CHOICE
