This study aimed to compare the first trimester complete blood count (CBC) indices of pregnancies complicated by early-onset preeclampsia (EOPE) or late-onset preeclampsia (LOPE).
A retrospective ...case-control study was conducted with 186 patients. Patients were classified into three subgroups: EOPE, LOPE, and control groups. First trimester CBC results were obtained for each patient. Hemoglobin, hematocrit, red blood cell distribution width, mean corpuscular volume, white blood cell (WBC) count, neutrophil, eosinophil, basophil, lymphocyte, monocyte, mean platelet volume, platelet distribution width, plateletcrit, and platelet count were compared. The neutrophil lymphocyte ratio was calculated by dividing the absolute lymphocyte count by the absolute neutrophil count. The platelet lymphocyte ratio was calculated by dividing the absolute lymphocyte count by the absolute platelet count.
The total number of cases was 21, 42, and 123, in the EOPE, LOPE, and control groups, respectively. There were statistically significant differences in the total WBC and neutrophil counts between the three groups (both p<0.05). WBC and neutrophil counts were found to be highest in the EOPE group, and the LOPE group had higher levels compared with controls. The optimal cut-off values to predict EOPE for WBC and neutrophil counts were 9.55×10
/ μL (sensitivity 71.4% and specificity 70.7%) and 6.45×10
/μL (sensitivity 66.7% and specificity 74.8%), respectively.
Increased first trimester WBC and neutrophil counts may be predictive for EOPE.
This study aims to evaluate whether smartphone addiction (SA) is associated with social media use and alexithymia levels in university students.
A group of 935 students aged between 18 and 45 years ...(509 females and 426 males) was recruited from different universities in Istanbul. SAs, alexithymia and social media use were assessed using the Smartphone Addiction Scale Short Version (SAS-SV), Toronto Alexithymia Scale-20 (TAS-20), and ad-hoc questions regarding social media use.
The mean age of participants was 21.89±3.27 years and 509 of participants were female (54.4%). 455 (48.6%) participants were placed in the "SA" and 198 (21.2%) in the "alexithymia" categories. The study found a high level of positive correlation (p<0.001) between both subscale and total TAS-20 scores and SAS-SV scores. Gender (OR=1.496, 95% CI 1.117-2.002, p=0.007) and number of social media by participants (OR=1.221, 95% CI 1.134-1.315, p<0.001) and TAS (OR=1.074, 95% CI 1.059-1.090, p<0.001) were found to be an independent predictors for SA.
The study revealed a positive correlation between alexithymia and smartphone use severity, and alexithymia was a significant predictor of SA. Future studies focusing on the causal aspect of this relationship will be useful in planning strategies for treatment.

The study was conducted with 275 pregnant women. Ninety-three, 110 and 72 women were in first, second and third trimesters, respectively. Incontinence Impact Questionnaire for UI, Urogenital Distress Inventory-Short Form and Incontinence Severity Index were applied. Lumbar lordosis measurement was performed by Baseline Bubble Inclinometer while diastasis recti abdominis (DRA) measurement was carried out by finger-width method. Manual muscle test for rectus abdominis and right and left external oblique abdominal muscles, and Benign joint hypermobility test with Beighton scoring method were also applied as musculoskeletal measurements. Tape measurement at the waist, umbilical and hip levels, caliper with bi-iliac and bi-trochanteric diameters were also recorded as anthropometric measurements.
Significant associated factors for UI were: umbilical DRA (OR = 1.57;
= .012); rectus abdominis muscle strength (values of 3 and below, OR = 1.2;
= .014); umbilical environment (OR = 1.1;
= .029); bi-iliac diameter (OR = 1.1;
= .05;) and bi-trochanteric diameter (OR = 1.3;
= .05), respectively.
Changing musculoskeletal and anthropometric characteristics of pregnant women should be taken into consideration in UI follow-up during pregnancy.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVESNumerous studies have been conducted on the psychological effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, how the mental health of health workers will be affected among the number ...of peaks during the pandemic has not been evaluated yet. The study aims to investigate the effects of the first, second, and third peaks of COVID-19 on anxiety, depression, and stress symptoms in healthcare workers. METHODSThe current study included 4031 healthcare workers, 1051 during the first peak period, 1409 during the second peak period, and 1571 during the third peak period. The Depression-anxiety-stress scale-21(DASS-21) was used to assess the participants' levels of anxiety, depression, and stress symptoms. RESULTSThe mean age of the participants was 33.74 ± 7.95, and 2634 (66.3 %) were female. 36.9 %(n = 1486) of the participants were physicians, 41.1 % (n = 1655) were nurses and 22.1 % (n = 890) were other healthcare workers. A statistically significant difference was documented in the DASS-21 anxiety (F(2:4028) = 502.893, p 2. Peak > 1. Peak), DASS-21 depression (F(2:4028) = 46.034, p 2. Peak > 1. Peak), DASS-21 stress (F(2:4028) = 65.548, p 1. Peak), and DASS-21 total scores (F(2:4028) = 156.860, p 2. Peak > 1. Peak) of healthcare workers during all three peak periods. CONCLUSIONSOur findings show that as the peak number rises, so do the levels of anxiety and depression among healthcare workers. As a result, it is possible to assert that prolongation of the COVID-19 pandemic worsens mental problems (Tab. 2, Fig. 3, Ref. 35).
Container traffic forecasting is important for the operations and the design steps of a seaport facility. In this study, performances of the novel soft computing models were compared for the ...container traffic forecasting of principal Turkish seaports (Istanbul, Izmir, and Mersin seaports) with excessive container traffic. Four forecasting models were implemented based on Artificial Neural Network with Artificial Bee Colony and Levenberg-Marquardt Algorithms (ANN-ABC and ANN-LM), Multiple Nonlinear Regression with Genetic Algorithm (MNR-GA), and Least Square Support Vector Machine (LSSVM). Forecasts were carried out by using the past records of the gross domestic product, exports, and population of the Turkey as indicators of socioeconomic and demographic status. Performances of the forecasting models were evaluated with several performance metrics. Considering the testing period, the LSSVM, ANN-ABC, and ANN-LM models performed better than the MNR-GA model considering overall fitting and prediction performances of the extreme values in the testing data. The LSSVM model was found to be more reliable compared to the ANN models. Forecasting part of the study suggested that container traffic of the seaports will be increased up to 60%, 67%, and 95% at the 2023 for the Izmir, Mersin, and Istanbul seaports considering official growth scenarios of Turkey.
Findings about inflammatory processes in schizophrenia are increasing day by day. Inflammatory processes in schizophrenia are associated with both its etiology and clinical symptoms. Serum ...high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) is also one of these inflammatory processes. Particularly, it is thought to be closely related to clinical findings of patients with schizophrenia.
In this study, the relationship between clinical findings of hsCRP levels of patients with drug-naÏve first-episode psychosis (FEP) and patients with schizophrenia in acute exacerbation phase is investigated. Clinical findings, psychometric properties (the Scale for the Assessment of Positive Symptoms, the Scale for the Assessment of Negative Symptoms, Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale), and hsCRP levels of patients were compared.
Forty-eight patients with FEP, 74 patients with schizophrenia in acute exacerbation phase and 54 healthy controlled volunteers are included in the study. The most substantial finding in the study is that there is a positive correlation between hsCRP levels and severity of positive symptoms of both patient groups, with FEP and with schizophrenia. The second most substantial finding is there is no significant difference between patients with FEP and schizophrenia, in terms of hsCRP.
The relationship between hsCRP and positive symptom severity in two groups of patients supports the inflammatory hypothesis in the etiopathogenesis of schizophrenia. This finding is supportive of close relation between inflammatory processes and clinical findings of patient with schizophrenia.
COVID-19 affected our mental health as well as our physical health. In this study, the anxiety and hopelessness levels of healthcare workers and non-healthcare workers and the factors affecting them ...were evaluated in Turkey. Beck Hopelessness Scale and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) was applied online to participants. Totally 2156 individuals were included in the study and 52.0% (n:1121) of them are healthcare workers. The hopelessness and state anxiety levels of healthcare workers were higher than non-healthcare workers. Nurses' hopelessness levels are higher than doctors, and state anxiety levels are higher than both doctors and other healthcare workers. Anxiety and hopelessness levels were higher in women, those living with a high-risk individual at home during the pandemic, those who had difficulty in caring for their children, and those whose income decreased. Anxiety levels are an important predictor of hopelessness. The increase in anxiety levels explained 28.9% of the increase in hopelessness levels. Increased working hours is one of the important factors affecting anxiety. As a conclusion, healthcare workers were more affected psychologically in the COVID-19 pandemic compared to the society. Nurses were affected more than other healthcare workers. It is important to identify the factors affecting anxiety, hopelessness, and individuals who may be more psychologically affected during the pandemic. An important contribution can be made to the protection of public health by ensuring that psychosocial interventions for high-risk groups are planned in advance.
Accident prevention is relatively a complex issue considering the effectiveness of the injury prevention technologies as well as more detailed assessment of the complex interactions between the road ...condition, vehicle and human factor. For many years, highway agencies and vehicle manufacturers showed great efforts to reduce the injuries resulting from the vehicle crashes. Many researchers used a broad range of methods to evaluate the impact of several factors on traffic accidents and injuries. Recent developments lead up to capable for determining the effects of these factors. According to World Health Organization (WHO), cyclists and pedestrians comprise respectively 1.6% and 16.3% in traffic crash fatalities in 2013. Also in Turkey crash fatalities for pedestrian and cyclists are respectively 20.6% and 3% according to Turkish Statistical Instıtute data in 2013. The relationship between cycling and pedestrian rates and injury rates over time is also unknown. This paper aims to predict the crash severity with the traffic injury data of the Konya City in Turkey by implementing the Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Regression Trees (RT) and Multiple Linear Regression modelling (MLRM) method.
Our goal was to highlight the prenatal diagnosis and management of central nervous system (CNS) anomalies through sharing our clinic’s experience.
We evaluated prenatal findings and postnatal ...outcomes of neonates who had a CNS anomaly diagnosis in our clinic over a ten-year period. A total of 183 cases with various CNS anomalies were included in the study. Birth or termination preferences of mothers were recorded in all cases, and postnatal diagnosis concordance and prognosis after surgical procedures were evaluated in mothers who chose to continue the pregnancy.
The mean maternal age was 28.2±5.5 years, mean gravida was 2.2±1.3, and the mean gestational age at diagnosis was 30.5±5.5 weeks. Seventy-five out of 183 (41%) patients chose to terminate their pregnancy. Twenty babies (26.6%) in the termination of pregnancy group had additional anomalies. One hundred eight patients gave birth at our institution. The mean birth weight was 3060±647.5 g, the mean gestational week at delivery was 37.9±1.7 weeks, and mean APGAR score (5th minute) was 8.8±2.3. Four neonates died on the postpartum first day. The postnatal diagnosis of 60 of the 108 (55.5%) patients who gave birth was concordant with the prenatal diagnosis, and 32 of the 108 (29.6%) babies underwent surgical interventions.
CNS anomalies have a broad spectrum and variable prognoses. This study highlights the limitations of prenatal diagnoses, and the need for parents to have this information in order to determine the course of their pregnancy and prepare themselves for the postnatal challenging treatment/rehabilitation process.
