In this paper for the first time inductive excited lock-in thermography (ILT) is applied on electronic packages and modules. This non-destructive evaluation method allows the detection of subsurface ...defects. Previous works in this field dealt with macroscopic applications or unpackaged devices. The main goal of this paper is the suitability estimation of ILT for electronic packages and modules mainly based on experimental investigations. Further points of interest are the characteristics for ILT on packages, optimum test parameters and the appreciation of loading capacity concerning magnetic field power. Therefore, an appropriate experimental setup is developed and different package types and assemblies are examined. For each tested device type a simple 1D-model based on the thermal wave propagation equation is created to determine a reasonable range for the test parameters. Theoretical considerations about load limits and experimental load tests are performed to ensure that the induced heating is really non-destructive.
Extensive tracheal defects after intensive care medicine, trauma, or large resections in tumor surgery remain a major challenge in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Defects that cannot be ...satisfactorily treated by complicated and costly reconstructive techniques reveal a need for an alloplastic tracheal replacement. Recent experimental and clinical studies in the development of alloplastic tracheal prostheses proved that the lack of an epithelial lining on the luminal surfaces and inadequate biophysical properties and shapes of the prostheses were the main causes for failure of these prostheses. In this study a cell-seeding technique has been used. Adhesion, spreading, and differentiation of seeded mucosa cells on biomaterials in vitro were absented by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Chemical properties and surface structure of the material influenced the differentiation process. Epithelium formation of incorporated tracheal prostheses was tested in animal experiments. Isolated respiratory cells were seeded into implanted tubular prostheses of porous polyurethane or expanded polytetrafluorethylene. Light microscopy and SEM showed the tendency of epithelium formation on the surface of the lumen. Vigorous cell layers, predominantly as multiple cell layers of squamous epithelium, were observed. Ciliated or mucus cells were not detected. It can be stated that the epithelium formation on incorporated porous implants is possible. Further studies of the stability and the differentiation process of the epithelium on such implants is needed before an introduction of tracheal replacements into the clinical practice can be considered.
The Edinburgh Cognitive and Behavioural ALS Screen (ECAS) has been developed to assess cognition and behaviour in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Cognitive impairments of ...ALS-specific and ALS-non-specific functions can be determined using cut-off scores based on performance of healthy subjects. However, detailed analyses show that older healthy subjects perform worse than younger ones, whereas highly-educated individuals perform better than those with lower education levels. As a consequence, this study presents new age and education matched cut-off scores for the revised German/Swiss-German version of the ECAS based on the performance of 86 healthy subjects.

Weitere Beiträge befassen sich mit dem Bearbeitungsstand und dem Handlungsbedarf der im Sächsischen Altlastenkataster (SALKA) erfassten Flächen, dem Gefährdungspotenzial von Gärtnereien und den altlastenbezogenen Bewertungs- und Analyseempfehlungen für kurzkettige Alkylphenole.
