CT angiography, or the spiral CT technique, is a promising minimally invasive method of visualising the arterial vascular system and can be applied in children in whom ultrasound, MRI and/or ...angiography or cardiac catheterisation cannot be performed, or where an exact diagnosis cannot be made. CT angiography should be considered in special cases as a diagnostic alternative to MRI, ultrasound and angiography. As an example of the possibilities of CT angiography, a case is described in which hypoplasia of the descending aorta was diagnosed and a postoperatively encountered perigraft reaction was demonstrated. Perforation of the blood vessel could be excluded by CT angiography.

SemanticTalk is a tool for supporting face-to-face meetings and discussions by automatically generating a semantic context from spoken conversations. We use speech recognition and topic extraction ...from a large terminological database to create a network of discussion topics in real-time. This network includes concepts explicitly addressed in the discussion as well as semantically associated terms, and is visualized to increase conversational awareness and creativity in the group.
Excellent lasing performance is demonstrated for a 1.83-micron InGaAlAs-InP Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL) utilizing the Buried Tunnel Junction technology. Threshold currents as low ...as 190 micro-A at 20 C and operating temperatures as high as 90 C have been measured. These values are the best ones reported so far for long-wavelength VCSELs. (Author)
A new histone‐specific acetyltransferase, which is closely associated with nucleosomes prepared from lymphocyte nuclei by treatment with micrococcal nuclease, is described. The acetylating enzyme ...transfers 3Hacetyl groups from 3Hacetyl‐coenzyme A to the endogenous histones H2A, H2B, H3 and H4 in nucleosomes as well as to free histones added to the reaction mixture. Histone H1 is not acetylated by this enzyme. The acetyltransferase was partially purified by DEAE‐Sephadex and DNA‐cellulose chromatography. The nucleosome‐associated enzyme binds to DNA cellulose at low salt concentrations (DNA‐binding acetyltransferase), while the previously described histonespecific acetyltransferases have no affinity to DNA under these conditions. This high affinity for DNA may explain the association of DNA‐binding acetyltransferase with nucleosomes.
